Cardinals OT Nate Potter lined up as the first-team right tackle during Thursday's OTAs. The main focus of Arizona's right tackle competition has been on OT Bobby Massie and OT Bradley Sowell, but Potter seems to be squarely in the discussion as well. "We're going to keep throwing all three guys in there to see who comes out on top," Cardinals coach Bruce Arians said. "Bobby's done very well. Bradley is inconsistent. Nate is probably the smartest of the three. It's just a matter of physically holding up." This is shaping up to be a camp battle to watch.

Cardinals OT Nate Potter saw playing time at left guard in Wednesday's practice. With Jonathan Cooper on injured reserve, the Cardinals are giving Potter an extended look at guard. He has the potential to be an upgrade over current starter Daryn Colledge.

A 2012 seventh-round pick, Potter is a long, lean (6'5/295) lineman capable of putting heat on Massie and/or kicking to guard in a pinch.

Cardinals LT Nate Potter (ankle) is inactive for Sunday's Week 17 game versus the 49ers. Potter will be replaced in the starting lineup by turnstile D'Anthony Batiste. It's great news for 49ers OLB Aldon Smith who is chasing the single-season sack record. The rest of the Arizona inactives are WRs Early Doucet and LaRon Byrd, QB John Skelton, FB Anthony Sherman, OL Mike Gibson, and DE Ronald Talley.

If the Cardinals are forced to start D'Anthony Batiste at left tackle, it would give Aldon Smith the best possible matchup he could have to overtake J.J. Watt for the NFL sack lead and put him in position to break Michael Strahan's all-time record. Potter hasn't missed a game since being promoted to the starting lineup in Week 11 and is capable of playing on limited practice.

The Cardinals have allowed just over two sacks per game since rookie Nate Potter replaced D'Anthony Batiste at left tackle on Nov. 18. They had been averaging a laughable 6.5 sacks per game prior to the change. Changes to the blocking schemes have helped, along with major improvement from rookie RT Bobby Massie. Potter will get a stiff test from Julius Peppers this weekend.

Coach Ken Whisenhunt was "very impressed" with LT Nate Potter after the rookie took over for a benched D'Anthony Batiste in Week 9. "I think it was a good time to make that switch with him in there," said Whiz, "and based on what I saw off the tape, it merits moving forward." Potter acknowledged that he graded out "decent, not good" in the film room. Standards are awfully low on Arizona's offensive line.
