Raiders worked out free agent RBs Montario Hardesty, Keiland Williams and Jonathan Grimes. Darren McFadden (hamstring) and Rashad Jennings (hamstring) are both questionable for Sunday's game at Kansas City. That leaves only Marcel Reece and Jeremy Stewart as healthy backs on the active roster. If one of this uninspiring free agent trio ends up signed, we'll know the Raiders expect DMC and Jennings to sit.

Browns released RB Montario Hardesty with an injury settlement. Hardesty had been on injured reserve. He's now available to sign with the highest bidder, although not many teams are likely to come calling. The 59th overall pick in the 2010 draft, 26-year-old Hardesty has averaged 3.5 yards per career carry while battling chronic knee and hamstring injuries.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports the Browns are planning to release RB Montario Hardesty from injured reserve with an injury settlement Monday. Hardesty underwent a knee scope about six weeks ago, so he's likely closing in on 100 percent. He's missed 29 games since being a second-round pick out of Tennessee in 2010. Hardesty has a 3.5 YPC average on 153 career carries.

Browns placed RB Montario Hardesty (knee surgery) on injured reserve, ending his season. Hardesty's surgery was just a scope, but his lengthy injury history was working against him. It's possible he'll be cut loose with an injury settlement once he gets healthy. We should say, if he gets healthy. The Browns figure to improvise with Brandon Jackson and FB Chris Ogbonnaya behind Trent Richardson. Hardesty is just 26, but injuries are on the verge of chasing him out of the league less than four years after being a second-round pick.

A source tells the Cleveland Plain-Dealer that Montario Hardesty (knee scope) will miss the first 2-3 regular season games. This will likely become a moot point once the Browns cut Hardesty. He's torn the ACL in both of his knees, torn a calf muscle, dealt with pulled hamstring and has a dislocated thumb right now. Hardesty's injuries have completely crippled his NFL career.

Montario Hardesty will undergo a knee scope Thursday. This should seal the deal on Hardesty's chances of making the final roster. Already dealing with a dislocated thumb, he's now going to need at least a couple weeks of rehab before getting back on the practice field. Dion Lewis has run away with the backup job. A 2010 second-round pick, Hardesty has totaled 537 yards on 153 carries (3.50 YPC) and scored one touchdown in his NFL career.

Browns RB Montario Hardesty has been diagnosed with a dislocated thumb, and will sit out of Thursday's preseason game. Hardesty is still practicing on a limited basis, but this might just about do it for his roster chances. The Cleveland Plain Dealer reported last week that Hardesty had a "decent chance" of keeping his roster spot, but only if he stayed healthy. Thus far in camp, he's been unable to stay healthy, while Dion Lewis has showed well. We might not know Trent Richardson's primary handcuff until after the third preseason game. Brandon Jackson is also in the mix.

Montario Hardesty (hamstring) returned to practice Sunday at Browns camp. Hardesty has battled the hamstring strain off and on since camp began, and is losing ground to Dion Lewis. To save his roster spot, Hardesty will have to stay off the shelf and likely show well in at least two preseason games.

Sources "close to the situation" tell the Cleveland Plain Dealer Browns RB Montario Hardesty's (hamstring) has a "decent chance" to keep his roster spot if he can get healthy. The implication being, if final cuts were due this week, Hardesty likely wouldn't make it. The oft-injured fourth-year pro has barely practiced this summer, and doesn't expect to suit up for Thursday's preseason opener. The Plain Dealer hinted earlier this week that Hardesty is in a direct competition with Brandon Jackson, and that newcomer Dion Lewis appears to have already clinched a roster spot.

The Cleveland Plain Dealer hints backup RBs Montario Hardesty and Brandon Jackson are vying for one roster spot. Dion Lewis seems to have sewn up a job, either as the No. 2 or 3 back, with a fast start to training camp. Hardesty, meanwhile, has battled an ongoing hamstring injury. Jackson is better in pass protection than the both of them.
