The Giants have waived Cox, Tom Rock of Newsday reports. Cox a seventh-round pick in 2013 served as a depth running back and special-teamer for the Giants until he broke his leg in a contest against the Seahawks in November last season. In two seasons with the Giants, he played in 18 games, totaling 76 yards on 26 rushing attempts and 697 yards on 31 kickoff returns. At present, the Giants RB depth chart is topped by Shane Vereen, Rashad Jennings and Andre Williams.

Cox (leg) was placed on injured reserve Wednesday, Tom Rock of Newsday reports. After suffering a likely leg fracture in the Week 10 loss to the Seahawks, Cox's season will come to an early end. The second-year running back appeared in four games for the Giants this season, gaining 33 yards on four carries. The Giants will replace him on the 53-man roster with Orleans Darkwa, who the team scooped up from the Dolphins' practice squad.

Cox (leg) is believed to have suffered a fractured lower leg in Sunday's loss to the Seahawks, Art Stapleton of The Record reports. While the team is yet to confirm, Cox left the locker room in a wheel chair with his leg stabilized. At this point, his status for Week 11, and beyond, appears bleak. Cox had two carries for six yards to go with a pair of receptions for nine yards.

Cox suffered an apparent left knee injury Sunday against the Seahawks, Jordan Raanan of NJ.com reports. With Rashad Jennings out and Peyton Hillis sustaining a concussion Sunday, Cox was pressed into action behind Andre Williams, but at this stage, it looks like Cox is going to miss some time due to his injury.

Cox was signed off the practice squad Monday. Cox, who was on the team's roster all of last season, did not make the final cut after camp, but he'll return to the 53-man team as insurance if Rashad Jennings (knee) is unable to play this week after suffering a sprained knee against the Falcons. Cox saw time in 14 games last season, rushing for 43 yards on 22 attempts. His biggest impact came on special teams, where he returned 20 kickoffs for 436 yards.

Cox and Kendall Gaskins did not make the Giants' final roster, The New York Daily News reports. Neither cut comes as a surprise, as the Giants were always likely to go with Peyton Hillis behind Rashad Jennings and Andre Williams. Though injuries allowed him to make a start last year, Cox doesn't have an especially intriguing skill set.

Cox had nine carries for three yards and one reception for eight yards in Sunday's Hall of Fame Game against the Bills.

Michael Cox rushed nine times for 19 yards and caught one pass for 11 yards in Sunday's Week 8 win at Philadelphia. Cox got the nominal start, but he played far behind Peyton Hillis once again. It's a surefire sign that Cox won't have a role when the Giants come out of their bye. Brandon Jacobs (hamstring) and Andre Brown (leg) should both be back.

Michael Cox rushed for 23 yards on 11 carries in Monday night's Week 7 win over the Vikings. Cox caught two passes for one yard. Peyton Hillis got the start in the Giants' backfield, but Cox received the first carry on the second play and rushed six times total for 22 yards on the opening drive. He was a non-factor thereafter. Cox dances way too much and doesn't get up field. He has a lot of work to do as a runner. Cox likely won't be a factor in the backfield again this season. Brandon Jacobs (hamstring) will look to return next week against the Eagles. Even if he can't, Hillis will see the bulk of the action.

The Giants are expected to start rookie Michael Cox on Monday Night Football against the Vikings. The NY Daily News cautions that Peyton Hills and Cox "will both play a lot, though," despite the fact that Hillis was signed off the street just five days ago. Hillis did spend training camp with the Buccaneers, whose offensive coordinator is ex-Giants QBs coach Mike Sullivan. So he's got an idea of the offense, and will probably be New York's primary pass-protection back against the Vikings. Cox offers more upside because he's got more juice as a runner and flashed big-play ability in the preseason on receptions and on kickoff returns.
