The Indy Star suggests newly re-signed Mewelde Moore will get some reps as a third-down back. With Donald Brown (ankle) on IR and Delone Carter (ankle) in serious doubt for Week 15, the Colts are scraping the bottom of the barrel. Moore was with the Colts for the first 11 games of the year, focusing on pass protection while getting just 13 touches. He'll only see the field against the Texans Sunday when Vick Ballard gets gassed.

Colts released RB Mewelde Moore and DT Antonio Dixon. Moore's release is a bit surprising because he was Indy's primary passing-down back when healthy. The Colts feel better about their running back depth chart now, with Donald Brown healthy and Vick Ballard coming on. Dixon was only in Indianapolis for a few weeks on a trial run. He didn't show enough.

Colts signed RB Mewelde Moore and waived QB David Legree. Purely a passing-down specialist entering his age-30 season, Moore averaged an impressive 7.1 yards on 22 carries and 9.5 yards on 11 catches under new Colts OC Bruce Arians in Pittsburgh last year. The signing suggests Arians is not convinced Donald Brown can handle pass-protection duties on third downs. Legree was undrafted out of Hampton University.

The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review believes the chance that Rashard Mendenhall (torn ACL) might miss the 2012 season could influence the Steelers to re-sign free agent Mewelde Moore. The Steelers already have Isaac Redman, Jonathan Dwyer and John Clay under contract behind Mendenhall, but none have near the experience Moore does. Five months shy of his 30th birthday, Moore has averaged 4.5 yards on 494 career carries, and is an asset in the passing game. Regardless of whether Moore is re-signed, Redman will be first up if Mendenhall doesn't play.

Mewelde Moore (knee) missed practice again on Friday. He's not going to play at Denver. Coordinator Bruce Arians confirmed that Isaac Redman will function as the every-down back, getting his rest when the Broncos have the ball. "I have all the confidence in the world in [Redman] as a runner, pass receiver and a blocker," Arians said.

Steelers declared RB Mewelde Moore, LB Chris Carter, LB LaMarr Woodley, OL D. Legursky, DE Al Woods, OL J. Meredith and WR Arnaz Battle inactive for Week 17 against the Browns.

Mewelde Moore (knee) is not expected to return for the Steelers' regular season finale. Isaac Redman is shaping up as a sneaky Week 17 play. The Steelers may take it easy on Rashard Mendenhall with one eye on the playoffs and the Browns rank 30th against the run. Redman had eight carries for 35 yards with a touchdown last week.

Mewelde Moore sustained a hamstring injury in Sunday's win over the Bengals. Moore was unable to finish the game. The Steelers' No. 3 back has a total of 27 touches in 10 appearances this season.
