Rams signed S Matt Giordano, formerly of the Raiders. 30-year-old Giordano was a 13-game starter in Oakland last year, primarily playing free safety after Michael Huff was forced to play cornerback. Giordano graded out as Pro Football Focus' No. 69 safety among 88 qualifiers. On the bright side, PFF did like Giordano better than incumbent Craig Dahl (78th). In St. Louis, Giordano will push Darian Stewart to start at free safety.

The Rams hosted free agent safeties Matt Giordano and Abram Elam for visits this week. Free agent Sherrod Martin was also in town, as we previously noted. The Rams are thin on experience at safety with rookie T.J. McDonald and injury-prone Darian Stewart. Giordano started 13 games for the Raiders last season, but he was victimized on a regular basis. Elam started seven games with the Chiefs.

Giordano can resume trying to chase down tailbacks after they break through Oakland's porous front-seven. Punt returner Phillip Adams has yet to gain clearance from his concussion.

Raiders re-signed S Matt Giordano. The 28-year-old Giordano is a special teamer without much defensive value. He'll be the Raiders' No. 4 safety until Michael Mitchell (knee) gets healthy.
