Free agent DE/OLB Mark Anderson worked out for the Cardinals. Anderson was released by the Bills in July and hasn't generated any interest until now. The Cardinals lost outside linebackers Lorenzo Alexander and Sam Acho to injured reserve Monday. Anderson has never played in a 3-4 scheme.

Bills released DE Mark Anderson. The move comes as a small surprise. Anderson signed a four-year, $19.5 million contract that included $8 million guaranteed last offseason. The Bills are eating an additional $500,000 by releasing him this year. After posting just one sack in five games last season, Anderson was expected to get another shot under the new regime. Instead, the Bills are wiping their hands clean. Jerry Hughes might be the new favorite to anchor one edge of the defense opposite Mario Williams. Anderson joins John Abraham on the free-agent end market.

Bills defensive coordinator Mike Pettine plans to initially use DE Mark Anderson as a situational pass rusher. "I think we'll start with third down for Mark and work our way backwards," said Pettine. He went on to call Anderson "a designated pass rusher" who may also see snaps as an edge player on first and second down. Anderson is a strong pass rusher when healthy, but his limited role is something to avoid in IDP leagues.

ESPN Boston reports Bills RE Mark Anderson (knee surgeries) still isn't 100 percent healthy. If Anderson isn't 100 percent, then he's close. The Bills' official team website reported over two weeks ago that Anderson was a full participant in OTAs. Anderson's job is likely safe for 2013, but he isn't guaranteed anything beyond that. He'll face competition from Jerry Hughes for snaps this season.

Bills RE Mark Anderson (knee surgeries) is now participating fully at OTAs. A predictable free-agent flop in 2012, Anderson missed all but five games in his first season with Buffalo after signing a four-year, $20 million contract. His year was primarily derailed by two knee surgeries to repair lateral meniscus damage. Anderson remains the Bills' best pass rusher beyond Mario Williams, so he's likely ticketed for a big role in Mike Pettine's new defense.

Bills RE Mark Anderson is expected to be back with the team in 2013. Buffalo signed Anderson to a four-year, $19.5 million contract last offseason, but he was a major flop as he battled a knee injury. He played in just five games and registered all of one sack. There was some uncertainty about his future with the Bills, but the new coaching staff is reportedly "anxious" to see him at full health. Anderson is due a total of $4 million this season.

Bills RE Mark Anderson (knee surgery) has been ruled out for Week 17. It's fair to wonder if Anderson's stay in Buffalo will span just one season. Anderson was active once after Week 5 following in-season knee surgery to repair a torn lateral meniscus. Anderson ultimately underwent another surgery, and still couldn't get on the field. After a disappointing, one-sack season, Anderson is due a $2.4 million salary and $1.5 million option bonus in 2013.

The Bills have ruled out DE Mark Anderson (knee surgery) for Week 16. Anderson was active last week against Seattle and practiced on a limited basis Friday, but still isn't healthy enough to return. The Bills are likely regretting not placing him on injured reserve earlier in the season. Anderson hasn't appeared in a game since Week 5 and will likely finish 2012 with just one sack. He's signed through 2015.

Bills RE Mark Anderson (knee surgery) has finally resumed practicing. "He was in more (drills) today and made more progress today," said coach Chan Gailey. "It's encouraging for him to be ready for this week." Gailey said Anderson will likely be eased back in if he does play versus the Seahawks. Anderson hasn't suited up since Week 5.

Bills RE Mark Anderson revealed his knee injury to be a torn lateral meniscus. "They had to go in and scope it out," said Anderson. "Then it had a little catch in it, and then we had to re-scope it." Anderson will miss his eighth consecutive game Sunday and remains without a timetable for a return. If he doesn't make progress next week, injured reserve could come into play.
