Giants waived or released DT Marcus Thomas, S Tyler Sash, DE Matt Broha, WR Isaiah Stanback, TE Larry Donnell, LB Jake Muasau, T Matt McCants, DE Craig Marshall, WR David Douglas and WR Dan DePalma. The release of Thomas might be a sign that the Giants' banged-up defensive front is on the mend. Chris Canty (knee), Shaun Rogers (leg) and Marvin Austin (back) are all in doubt for Week 1. Broha has been asked to join the practice squad.

Giants signed DT Marcus Thomas, formerly of the Broncos. A capable rotational veteran, Thomas is a quality signing so late in camp for a team growing desperate for depth. Although DT Marvin Austin expressed confidence in his back, coach Tom Coughlin isn't prepared to rule out structural damage. Starter Chris Canty (knee) remains without a timetable for a return.

The Giants will meet with free agent DT Marcus Thomas on Thursday. Thomas has generated little league-wide interest since turning down a one-year offer to re-up with the Broncos in May. The Giants are dealing with multiple injuries at defensive tackle, one to Marvin Austin and a season-ender to Shaun Rogers. Thomas is a 26-year-old run stuffer. He could help in a rotation.

The Broncos are not expected to re-sign free agent DT Marcus Thomas. Denver previously had a one-year contract offer on the table, but it appears to have been pulled. Thomas wants a multi-year commitment. According to the Denver Post, "at least two other teams" have significant interest in the 26-year-old, but are planning to wait until after June 1 to pursue Thomas.

Unless one of the three interested teams increases their offer, free agent DT Marcus Thomas will hold off on a decision until after the draft. Thomas' first priority is a long-term deal. If he's only seeing one-year offers from all three teams, including the Broncos, he wants to better evaluate his playing-time possibilities after rosters become more clear in early May.

ESPN's Josina Anderson reports free agent DT Marcus Thomas is holding out for a long-term contract. The Broncos are open to re-signing Thomas to a one-year contract, but he's "focused on receiving a long-term deal." Anderson reports the sides "may be open to start negotiations again later." Thomas has supposedly drawn "serious offers" from two other teams, but hasn't lined up any known visits since the start of free agency. He's likely overplaying his hand, and the smart money is on him ending up back in Denver on a one-year deal.

The Broncos were in contract negotiations with free agent DT Marcus Thomas as of late Wednesday. Thomas, one of the better defensive tackles left on the decimated market, has also reportedly drawn "serious offers" from two more teams. Thomas is a two-down run defender. Denver is serious about bringing him back after losing Brodrick Bunkley, who played a similar role in the Broncos' defense last year.

Broncos DT Marcus Thomas is out for the rest of the preseason due to a strained pectoral muscle. The Broncos probably feel like they dodged a bullet after fellow defensive tackle Ty Warren was diagnosed with a torn triceps. Thomas, who had just passed Kevin Vickerson for a starting gig, has a chance to be ready for Week 1. Still, the moves the Broncos made to fortify the gut of their defense have been nullified. After giving up an unruly 154.6 yards per game on the ground last year, the Broncos figure to struggle against the run again.

Broncos DT Marcus Thomas has passed Kevin Vickerson for a starting gig. The Broncos started Thomas and Brodrick Bunkley at defensive tackle on Thursday, leaving Vickerson and Ty Warren on the second unit. Vickerson lost 25 pounds in the offseason, dropping from 310 pounds down to 285. He may have to put that size back on to regain his starting job.

Broncos re-signed DT Marcus Thomas to a one-year contract. A statement from Thomas' agent suggests the Broncos see him as a starter and have paid him accordingly. Thomas graded out well as a run defender in Pro Football Focus' 2010 ratings, and John Fox's scheme is considered a better fit for his talents. He's the favorite to start next to Kevin Vickerson inside.
