Bonani has been released by the Titans, Terry McCormick of TitanInsider.com reports. Bonani was competing for the kicking job against Travis Coons, who is now the only kicker left on the roster. However, the Titans have been trying out veteran kickers, so Coons won't necessarily get the job.

Bonani connected on 1-of-2 field goal attempts in Tennessee's final preseason game against Minnesota on Thursday. Bonani missed wide left from 32 yards out in the first quarter before hitting a 29-yarder in the fourth quarter. Bonani hasn't been able to distance himself from rookie Travis Coons, who didn't attempt a field goal Thursday, in the kicking competition so far. What's more, according to John Glennon of The Tennessean, the Titans brought in three veteran kickers for tryouts on Wednesday, which shows the team isn't completely confident in either Bonani or Coons.

Bonani converted both of his field goal attempts as well as an extra point in Saturday's preseason win over the Falcons. Bonani, who had been nursing a sore groin, showed no ill effects on Saturday, hitting a 44-yard attempt in the second quarter and then finding success from 51 yards out in the second half. Heading into the final week of the preseason, Ken Whisenhunt has stated the kicking competition between Bonani and rookie Travis Coons is still wide open, according to Jim Wyatt of The Tennessean.

Maikon Bonani is the favorite to win the Titans kicking job. In an effort to replace Rob Bironas, the Titans are pitting Bonani against UDFA Travis Coons. The winner of the gig will not hit the fantasy radar as an unproven kicker in a shaky offense.
