Bears signed TE Leonard Pope, formerly of the Steelers. Pope, 30, adds experience behind Martellus Bennett, where the Bears were lacking with Fendi Onobun, Kyle Adams, and Steve Maneri rounding out the depth chart. Pope had three catches in Pittsburgh last year. He's a blocker.

Free agent TE Leonard Pope is participating in Bears training camp on a tryout basis. Pope, 30 next month, hasn't generated any known interest since becoming a free agent in March. He's nothing more than a blocker and red-zone threat.

Steelers signed TE Leonard Pope to a one-year contract. Wherever Todd Haley lands, Pope is sure to follow. The two have been together in Arizona, Kansas City, and now Pittsburgh. Pope will add veteran depth behind Heath Miller with Weslye Saunders suspended four games. Despite impressive measurables, Pope has never cleared 250 yards in six NFL seasons.

Free agent TE Leonard Pope will visit the Steelers Tuesday. One of the more experienced players remaining in a barren tight end market, Pope caught a career high 24 passes for 247 yards in Kansas City last season. A poor blocker, he'd provide pass-catching depth behind Heath Miller in Pittsburgh.

Leonard Pope had three receptions for 26 yards against the Patriots in Week 11. Sometimes a new rookie quarterback can cause a tight end to get more looks, and Pope and Jake O'Connell (three catches, 22 yards) were targeted 10 times. Unfortunately neither of them have fantasy-level talent. We'll let you know if one of them emerges, but we won't be holding our breath.

Chiefs re-signed TE Leonard Pope. Pope, 28 in September, made news this offseason for saving a 6-year-old boy from drowning at a pool party. Unfortunately, he's not a very good player. Pope caught 10 passes for just 76 yards in 16 games last season, also grading out very poorly as a blocker per Pro Football Focus. He'll try to win a backup job behind emerging second-year tight end Tony Moeaki.
