After dropping three balls in Friday's preseason opener it didn't take long for the Bills to part ways with Hankerson. He wasn't expected to make the final roster to begin with given the already crowded receiving corps. The Miami product spent his first four years with the Redskins before bouncing around with three different teams last season.

Hankerson caught one pass for five yards but dropped three balls in Saturdays preseason loss to the Colts. "He had a horrible game," coach Rex Ryan told The Buffalo News.

EDGE Analysis

Hankerson probably isn't going to make the final roster, as it was a crowded scene to begin with and he hasn't done much of anything to impress all summer.

Hankerson, who's listed with "other" after the first three receiving pairs on the team's initial depth chart, appears to be falling behind in the race for a roster spot. He also had a drop in the end zone during Wednesday's practice, The Buffalo News reports.

EDGE Analysis

If your league runs deep and you're throwing darts to try to guess the Bills' third receiver, Hankerson should not be your choice. Marquise Goodwin, Dez Lewis, Greg Salas, and Greg Little (and perhaps others) appear to be comfortably ahead of him at this point.

The Bills and Hankerson agreed to a one-year contract Thursday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.

Hankerson opened his tenure with the Falcons last fall with 22 catches (on 39 targets) for 291 yards and two touchdowns over the first six games, but injuries soon whittled his snap counts on game day to next to nil. By early December, he was a resident of injured reserve and waived by the middle of the month. Before season's end, both the Patriots and Bills took a look at the wideout, but he was unable to produce with either organization. Nevertheless, Hankerson will get another shot in a Bills receiving corps that's populated by intriguing, yet flawed options behind clear No. 1 Sammy Watkins.

Hankerson bolsters the Bills' depth at wideout in advance of Week 17, but it remains to be seen how much of a role he might have in Sunday's season finale against the Jets, considering that he needs to absorb the Bills' offense on the fly.

Hankerson's brief stint with New England came to an end Saturday after playing just 10 snaps in the team's Week 15 win over Tennessee. However, Rapoport noted in his report that the Patriots would likely attempt to re-sign Hankerson should he clear waivers, so this may not be the last we see of Hankerson in a New England uniform.

Hankerson was on the field for 10 of 66 snaps on offense in Sunday's 33-16 win over the Titans, ESPN's Mike Reiss reports.

Hankerson didn't see any targets in his debut with the Patriots, but that could change this Sunday against the Jets, with both Julian Edelman and Danny Amendola banged up heading into Week 16.

Hankerson, who has two practices under his belt since being claimed off waivers from Atlanta earlier this week, joins Danny Amendola, Brandon LaFell and Keshawn Martin as wide receivers. Realistically, we don't expect too much from Hankerson this week, but he could see a bigger role going forward, particularly if LaFell continues to drop passes.

Prior to landing on the Falcons' injured list, the 26-year-old Hankerson had recorded 26 catches for 327 yards and three touchdowns in eight contests for the team.

Hankerson briefly had a key role in the Atlanta offense, but his season was largely defined by drops and injuries. It's unclear if he might actually be healthy enough to play, as there's some chance he just agreed to an injury settlement to get an early start on preparing for his future with another organization.
