Briggs (groin) was placed on injured reserve Friday, the Associated Press reports. Briggs' 12th NFL season was an extremely disappointing one, with him missing eight games and posting just 35 tackles and an interception in those games. He might have played his last game with the Bears, and it's fair to wonder if the 34-year-old is capable of contributing to any other team, either.

Briggs (groin) has been ruled out for Thursday's game in Detroit, Rich Campbell of the Chicago Tribune reports. Thus marks Briggs' first absence as a result of the groin suffered in Week 12. In his place, Jon Bostic will cover weakside linebacker.

Briggs (groin) said he expects to miss "maybe a few weeks" as the result of the groin injury he sustained in the Week 12 victory over the Buccaneers, Rich Campbell of the Chicago Tribune reports. Briggs underwent an MRI on Tuesday which should determine a more clear-cut timeline for the linebacker's return, but at the very least, he seems doubtful to play Thanksgiving afternoon against the Lions. The Bears should officially confirm Briggs' status for Thursday's game following the release of Wednesday's injury reports. If he's indeed ruled out as anticipated, Jon Bostic would step in to the lineup to replace him on the weak side.

The Bears did not practice Tuesday, but Briggs (groin) was listed as a limited participant on the team's injury report for the second straight day. Briggs exited Sunday's game against the Buccaneers with the groin injury, but he will have a chance to play this week, even with the Bears playing Thursday. A final decision on his status may not come until game day.

Briggs left Sunday's game against the Buccaneers with a groin injury and will not return, the Chicago Sun-Times' Adam Jahns reports. It will be Jon Bostic for the Bears the rest of the way. Briggs had six tackles (three solo) in the first half before departing.

Briggs (ribs) is listed as active for Sunday night's game against the Packers. Briggs is out there if you need him Sunday, though prior to suffering his rib injury in Week 5, he had recorded a modest total of 22 tackles.

Briggs (ribs) is probable for Sunday's game against Green Bay. Briggs is ready to return from injury, but he'll be an uninspiring IDP consideration until he shows some signs of productivity. He had just 22 tackles in five games prior to the injury.

Briggs (ribs) practiced fully Thursday, the Bears' official site reports. Entering Chicago's Week 9 bye, Briggs had three consecutive DNPs on his game log due to a rib injury. However, he hasn't missed a rep in drills this week, meaning he should retake his normal spot at weakside linebacker. The soon-to-be 34-year-old is reaching the twilight of his career, though, with 22 tackles (15 solo), two passes defended, and one interception through five contests this season.

Briggs (ribs) resumed practicing Monday, ESPN.com's Michael C. Wright reports. Briggs has missed the Bears' previous three games with the injury, but the team's recently-completed bye week may have been all the additional rest he needed to prepare for a return to the field. Monitor his progress during practices throughout the week, but there appears to be a good chance that he'll make his way back into the starting lineup Sunday against the Packers.

Briggs (ribs) is inactive for Sunday's game against New England. With the linebacker still out, Khaseem Greene will likely start again in Briggs' place on Sunday.
