Woodley was placed on injured reserve Thursday with a chest injury, Darren Urban of the Cardinals' official site reports.
EDGE Analysis
Under general manager Steve Keim, the Cardinals have taken chances on veterans with team-friendly one-year contracts, producing resurgent seasons for Karlos Dansby and Antonio Cromartie in the past. Woodley was another player in that vein, but despite starting at weak-side linebacker, he only recorded 10 tackles and one sack on 42 percent of the defensive snaps. With his season over, Dwight Freeney and Markus Golden will pick up the slack on the outside.

Woodley was among the rotation of outside linebackers used in the Cardinals' first-team defense during OTAs and minicamp, ESPN.com reports. Alex Okafor is all but penciled in as the three-down strong-side linebacker, which leaves Woodley and Lorenzo Alexander to man the weak side. Because Alexander is a special-teams maven, his role on defense is expected to be situational. Thus, Woodley will likely be afforded a workload significant enough to show off his wares as a pass rusher. In eight professional season, he's tallied double-digit sacks three times on his way to 57 in 100 career games.

Coach Bruce Arians said Wednesday at the NFL Annual Meeting that Woodley (biceps) will be an every-down linebacker in 2015, Mike Jurecki of FOX Sports 910 Phoenix reports. Woodley's 2014 campaign ended prematurely due to a torn biceps, so there's no guarantee that he'll uphold such an expectation. More likely, his varied skill set indicates that he holds the ability to play in all scenarios, especially in pass-specific situations. Even if he doesn't land a starting gig, the Cardinals' current lack of linebacker depth could afford Woodley a significant workload this coming season.

Woodley (biceps) has reached a one-year agreement with the Cardinals, NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reports. Woodley hasn't recorded double-digit sacks since 2010, and his 2014 season ended after just six games because of a torn bicep. He should be healthy in time for training camp, but there's no guarantee he will earn a starting job or even a significant role. Still just 30 years old, Woodley has declined much faster than expected, with injuries playing a key role. If healthy, he could conceivably still re-emerge as a useful pass-rusher in Arizona' 3-4 scheme.

The Raiders will release Woodley, ESPN.com reports. A torn bicep cut Woodley's 2014 campaign short, with the DE -- who signed a two-year, $12 million deal with Oakland last offseason -- having recorded just five tackles in six games as a Raider.

Woodley (biceps) was placed on injured reserve Saturday, Vic Tafur of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Woodley's first season in Oakland will end with the 29-year-old having recorded a mere five tackles (three solo) and zero sacks in six games. He suffered a torn biceps in last Sunday's loss to Arizona and will be replaced on the active roster by Denico Autry.

Woodley suffered a torn bicep in last Sunday's game and is believed to be out for the remainder of the regular season, NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reports. Woodley has racked up just five combined tackles through six games this season, but likely won't have a chance to improve those numbers in 2014. With Justin Tuck (knee) also looking iffy for this Sunday's contest, defensive ends C.J. Wilson and Shelby Harris would be in line for increased reps.

LaMarr Woodley confirmed he will play defensive end in Oakland. He'll likely play right end with Justin Tuck at his natural left end spot. With Sio Moore in the Von Miller role at strong-side linebacker and left end on pass-rushing downs -- with Tuck kicking to three technique in those scenarios -- the Raiders do have the potential to bring some pressure. They also fielded a respectable front seven in 2013, however, and finished 4-12.

Raiders agreed to terms with DE/OLB LaMarr Woodley, formerly of the Steelers, on a two-year contract. The deal is worth a max of $12 million. Oakland was the only visit Woodley, 30, made; he was scheduled to visit Tennessee next. With 2013 starting DEs Lamarr Houston and Justin Hunter free agents and Houston already signing with Chicago, the Raiders replace them with Woodley and Justin Tuck on Thursday. Woodley has exclusively been a 3-4 outside linebacker. The Raiders run a 4-3. In today's NFL, pass rushers are pass rushers.

Free agent OLB LaMarr Woodley is scheduled to visit the Titans Friday. This has been the expected landing spot for Woodley all along. New Titans defensive coordinator Ray Horton was in Pittsburgh during Woodley's first four NFL seasons and he's now installing a 3-4 in Tennessee. The only question is if the Oakland -- where Woodley visited Wednesday -- will blow him away with an offer he can't refuse. Reggie McKenzie has cap space to burn.
