ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that free agent Kyle Orton is one of the available quarterbacks about whom the Redskins have had "internal discussions." The other two are more obvious: Peyton Manning and Matt Flynn. Schefter also reports that the Redskins have at least contemplated trading up for Robert Griffin at the No. 2 overall pick. After trading down repeatedly in the 2011 draft and improving the rest of their roster last spring and summer, the Redskins seem intent to find their franchise quarterback this offseason.

The Florida Times Union mentions free agents Kyle Orton and Jake Delhomme as two veteran quarterbacks the Jaguars might try to sign. New OC Bob Bratkowski has said the Jags would like to sign an experienced backup to mentor Blaine Gabbert. The crop of free agent quarterbacks is exceptionally deep this year, with Chad Henne, Jason Campbell and Vince Young, among others, all set to join Orton and Delhomme on the open market. The presence of any would assure a hearty quarterback controversy in Jacksonville.

Impending free agent Kyle Orton has hinted he won't be back with the Chiefs in 2012. "I don't know," Orton said when asked about where he might end up. "I know (the Chiefs have) a great quarterback in Matt Cassel. Matt's a good friend, he's a great teammate, and he's a great quarterback. As I look at it, it's his team." Extremely unlikely to be franchise tagged, there's little reason for Orton to return to a club where he'd have to compete for the No. 1 job with so many teams expected to have openings at quarterback this offseason.

According to NFL Network's Michael Lombardi, the Chiefs will "make an effort" to re-sign impending free agent Kyle Orton as a competitor for Matt Cassel in 2012. Orton is a better passer than Cassel, but he could be facing a rigged competition if the Chiefs end up bringing in the pro-Cassel Josh McDaniels as coordinator or head coach-in-waiting. On the other hand, Orton is not certain to land more money or a better opportunity with another team.

Kyle Orton completed 21-of-36 passes for 300 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions in the Chiefs' Week 16 overtime loss to the Raiders. Orton continues to breathe life into the Chiefs' offense. In his two starts for Kansas City, he has 600 yards passing and has moved the offense well. At the very least, Orton has made the franchise think about bringing him back as competition for Matt Cassel. They're now eliminated from the playoffs, but Orton will continue to pad his resume against his former teammates in Denver next week.

Interim coach Romeo Crennel said Kyle Orton should be the Chiefs 2012 starter if he wins the final two games. There's a ton of uncertainty in Kansas City, so Crennel is getting way ahead of himself here. He's no lock to get the head coaching job, Orton is an impending free agent and Matt Cassel is under contract through 2014. Still, Orton may truly be a better option than Cassel. The Chiefs would be foolish not to at least consider using him as a "bridge" to a rookie quarterback they might draft in April.

Kyle Orton completed 23-of-31 passes for 299 yards to guide the Chiefs to a 19-14 upset victory over the Packers in Week 15. The Packers lost for the first time in 364 days, breaking a streak of 19 consecutive victories. It was no fluke, either. Romeo Crennel's squad controlled the game from the opening kickoff, outgaining the Packers by 123 yards. Orton couldn't put the ball in the end zone, but he gutted Green Bay's defense for 9.6 yards per attempt with a 104.1 passer rating. A massive upgrade on Tyler Palko, Orton is a viable QB2 option against the Raiders in Week 16.

ESPN's Rachel Nichols confirms that Kyle Orton will be the Chiefs' starting quarterback Sunday against the Packers. Orton will play with a glove on his passing hand after dislocating a finger two weeks ago. "He doesn't like it," reported Nichols of Orton's glove. "Makes him uncomfortable." Orton isn't going to be much of a stand-alone fantasy option, but we still like his chances of being an upgrade for Dwayne Bowe and company. If Orton falters, rookie Ricky Stanzi is on deck.

Kyle Orton (finger) returned to a full practice Friday and is listed as probable for Week 15. Orton will start against the Packers, as confirmed by interim coach Romeo Crennel on Friday. Rotoworld ranks Orton as a low-end QB2 option for Week 15.

Chiefs interim coach Romeo Crennel confirmed Friday that Kyle Orton (finger) made it through the practice week unscathed and is on track to start against the Packers in Week 15. Crennel said definitively that Orton will make his first start as a Chief. Fifth-round rookie Ricky Stanzi is No. 2 on the depth chart and would enter if Orton suffered an in-game setback. Tyler Palko has been bumped all the way down to third string. Orton's installation and return to health bode well for Dwayne Bowe's chances of a big fantasy day against the Packers.
