According to ESPN Boston's Mike Reiss, the Patriots plan to stash Kevin Faulk (ACL surgery) on the reserve/PUP list to start the season. It's the only sensible move. Faulk has yet to participate in camp, and the Pats have a crowded house backfield. Staying on the roster via the PUP list is a smart way to keep Faulk in the locker room for his much valued leadership.

Patriots RB Kevin Faulk has yet to participate in training camp coming off last October's reconstructive ACL surgery. Faulk opened camp on active/PUP, so he'll be eligible to stay on reserve/PUP into the season. The Patriots may view Faulk as in-season roster insurance in the event of an injury to Danny Woodhead or rookie Shane Vereen. If he was on the active roster now, it would be hard to imagine Faulk making the final 53.

Kevin Faulk was listed on the Patriots roster for the first time Saturday. It looks like the 35-year-old Faulk is getting one more chance to make an impression. The problem is he's coming off a torn ACL and there are six running backs ahead of him on the depth chart.

Nothing is imminent between the Patriots and free agent RB Kevin Faulk, according to the Boston Herald. Faulk is coming off a torn ACL and turned 35 in June. Despite all his contributions to the Patriots' success, he's likely at the end of line. They re-signed Sammy Morris Wednesday, putting six running backs on the roster. That includes two third-down backs in Danny Woodhead and Shane Vereen.
