Steelers hired retired OLB Joey Porter as a defensive assistant coach. Porter, 37 next month, retired from the NFL in the summer of 2012 and joined Colorado State's, his alma mater, coaching staff as an undergraduate student assistant coach last season. Porter played eight seasons for the Steelers from 1999-2006, racking up 60 sacks. He's still getting his feet wet at the coaching level.

Former Steelers LB Joey Porter was arrested in Bakersfield (CA) on Friday night on a felony count of writing bad checks. No details are available other than the allegation that Porter wrote at least one check with insufficient funds in Clark County, Nevada. Officers saw the felony warrant when they pulled him over during a routine traffic stop. Porter, 35, retired from football in July as a Pittsburgh Steeler. He had 98 career sacks.

Former Steelers, Cardinals, and Dolphins LB Joey Porter has retired from football. He's retiring as a Pittsburgh Steeler. A third-round pick out of Colorado State back in 1999, Porter wound up playing 13 NFL seasons and making four Pro Bowls. He earned a Super Bowl ring with Pittsburgh for the 2005 season. Porter, 35, was once one of the most feared edge-rushing outside linebackers in the game, piling up at least nine sacks six times. After a couple of disappointing seasons with Arizona, Porter admitted his knees could no longer handle the grind. He may be an eventual candidate for the Steelers' Ring of Honor.

Cardinals placed LB Joey Porter (recovery from knee surgery) on injured reserve, ending his season. Porter underwent arthroscopic surgery in early November, and ended up never playing another down. The former All Pro appeared in just six games, and was horrendous when doing so, grading out as one of the worst linebackers in football by Pro Football Focus. At one time one of the best players in the game, it's quite possible Porter is at the end of the line after entering the league as a third-round pick of the Steelers in 1999.

Cardinals declared LB Joey Porter, QB Kevin Kolb, WR Stephen Williams, SS Sean Considine, LT D'Anthony Batiste, WR Jaymar Johnson, and WR DeMarco Sampson inactive for Week 15 against the Browns. Porter is close to a return but will need to go through a full practice week before being active. John Skelton makes his fifth start of the season. Chanci Stuckey replaces DeMarco Sampson as the Cardinals fourth receiver. Kerry Rhodes and QB Ronald Bartel are active.

Cardinals OLB Joey Porter has resumed practicing on a limited basis for the first time since undergoing arthroscopic surgery on his knee more than three weeks ago. Porter is close to being ready for game action, but he's not going to have a major role when he returns. Rookie Sam Acho has run with the starting job, thanks to five sacks in the past five games.

Cardinals OLB Joey Porter underwent arthroscopic surgery on his knee last week and was on crutches during Sunday's win over the Rams. Knee scopes typically sideline players only 2-4 weeks, but the Cardinals field a better defense when Porter isn't in the lineup. He may not get his job back when healthy. Against St. Louis, rookie Sam Acho stepped up for a sack and three solo tackles, while O'Brien Schofield had four solo tackles. Arizona would be better off going young at outside linebacker moving forward.

Cardinals OLB Joey Porter has agreed to a restructured contract and is now expected to remain with the team. This guy never goes away. Porter has lost his burst off the edge and is one of the league's poorest 3-4 outside 'backers in both run defense and coverage. The Cardinals are holding onto the veteran apparently because they aren't ready to hand over the reins to O'Brien Schofield, Will Davis, and Sam Acho. We think they'd be better off letting the youngsters play.
