ESPN's Adam Caplan reports the Chiefs are interested in free agent ILB Joe Mays. Mays was released by the Broncos on the eve of training camp last summer, but was serviceable as a run stopper for the Texans. He spent the first two years of his career playing for Andy Reid in Philadelphia, so he has a Chiefs connection.

Texans signed ILB Joe Mays, formerly of the Broncos. Mays, 28, managed just 20 tackles across six games (four starts) in Denver last year, losing his starting job to washed-up Keith Brooking before suffering a severe leg and ankle fracture in late October. The Texans need depth at inside 'backer, but they're not going to like it if Mays is ever forced to start.

The Sideline View's Adam Caplan reports the Texans have "sincere interest" in free agent ILB Joe Mays. Per Caplan, there's a "realistic chance" they'll make Mays a contract offer within the next 24 hours. Mays visited the Redskins on Saturday night, but left without a deal. The Texans are seemingly annually thin at inside linebacker.

Free agent Joe Mays will visit the Redskins. Mays was cut by the Broncos on Tuesday. With Keenan Robinson tearing his pectoral, a spot at inside linebacker has opened up in Washington. Mays can be depth on early downs and help on special teams.

Broncos released MLB Joe Mays. Mays lost his starting job to current free agent Keith Brooking last year and wasn't going to beat out Nate Irving this year. By cutting the former Eagle one year into his three-year, $12 million contract, the Broncos save $3.5 million against the cap right away. Perhaps they'll use that cash to help fill the void left by Von Miller's impending four-game suspension. As a two-down linebacker coming off a broken ankle and leg, Mays won't find a hot market for his services.

MLB Joe Mays is not expected to make the Broncos' final roster. Mays lost his starting job last season, couldn't participate in full-team spring workouts due to a left ankle injury and is owed $4 million in base salary. The Broncos reportedly tried to trade him during April's draft. They'll likely continue that quest once training camp begins and injuries strike around the league.

Broncos MLB Joe Mays (broken ankle/leg) is not medically cleared for OTAs. Mays is in grave danger of losing his roster spot. He's owed an untenable $4 million base salary, isn't healthy, and people inside the Broncos' organization want Nate Irving to start at middle linebacker. On day two of April's draft, NFL Network reported Mays was available for trade. Denver found no takers.

NFL Network's Daniel Jeremiah reports the Broncos have made ILB Joe Mays available via trade. Mays, 28 in July, is due a $4 million salary in 2013, and he lost his starting job with the Broncos last season and then broke his ankle in Week 8. The two-down thumper could likely be had for a late-round pick. Mays will almost certainly be released if the Broncos can't unload him.

The Denver Post suggests MLB Joe Mays will likely be released if the Broncos sign free agent LB Stewart Bradley. It makes sense. Mays lost his starting job last season, and then broke his ankle in Week 8. He's also due a prohibitive $4 million salary. Bradley's signing seems likely. Mays is a two-down thumper.

Broncos LB Joe Mays (ankle) recently had his boot removed and is aiming for a return to the field for OTAs. "I should be just about there (for) OTAs," Mays said. "But definitely training camp." Mays broke his ankle in Week 8 and ended the season on injured reserve. He lost his starting middle linebacker job to Keith Brooking and is due a $4 million salary in 2013.
