Redskins signed DB Jerome Murphy. Murphy has been with the Rams, Saints, and Lions since the start of training camp. He's played mostly corner since being drafted at the top of the third round in 2010, but he may play some safety with Brandon Meriweather (torn ACL) out for the year.

Lions claimed CB Jerome Murphy off waivers from the Saints and waived CB Kevin Barnes. The Lions gave Barnes 14 defensive snaps before bailing on him. They had dealt undisclosed future compensation to the Redskins in exchange for him late last month. Murphy lasted just two weeks with his old coach, Steve Spagnuolo, in New Orleans.

Saints waived CB Jerome Murphy. It's not a good sign for Murphy's long-term NFL outlook that old pal Steve Spagnuolo cut him after a 15-day trial run. Murphy is now eligible to be claimed off waivers elsewhere. He was the 65th overall pick in the 2010 draft.

Saints claimed CB Jerome Murphy off waivers from the Rams. The 65th overall pick in the 2010 draft reunites with Steve Spagnuolo, who helped draft Murphy out of South Florida three Aprils ago. Murphy is a physical corner who couldn't stay healthy in St. Louis, but can play press coverage and zone coverage and should already have a solid grasp on New Orleans' defense. He'll push Johnny Patrick and Corey White for snaps in sub-packages.

Rams waived CB Jerome Murphy. A third-round pick in 2010, Murphy appeared in 14 games as a rookie, but spent 2011 on injured reserve with a broken ankle. His draft pedigree should earn him some looks on the waiver wire.

Rams placed CB Jerome Murphy on injured reserve with a fractured ankle, ending his season. The 65th overall pick in the 2010 draft, Murphy was expected to challenge for a nickel and dime back role before breaking the ankle early in camp. He had one pick and 21 tackles in 14 appearances as a rookie. Murphy's placement on I.R. leaves St. Louis' fifth cornerback job up for grabs. The Rams will likely look for an alternative at final cutdowns this weekend.

After visiting Rams camp this week, SI's Jim Trotter came away with the impression that CB Jerome Murphy (fractured ankle) is "sidelined for the season." Murphy underwent surgery on Wednesday. We suspected he was done, but the Rams haven't made a roster move yet. Per Trotter, St. Louis is counting on Justin King to emerge as the new nickel back behind Ron Bartell and Bradley Fletcher.

Rams CB Jerome Murphy will have surgery Wednesday to repair his fractured ankle. Fractured ankles often involved leg damage as well, but the exact extent of Murphy's injury is unclear. The Rams will decide whether to place Murphy on I.R. at a later date. He was the 65th overall pick in last year's draft, but earned his way onto the field for under 200 defensive snaps as a rookie.

Rams CB Jerome Murphy could be sidelined for up to 10 weeks after breaking his ankle on Friday. A third-round pick in 2010, Murphy tallied 30 tackles and one interception in 14 games as a rookie last season. If he begins the regular season on the PUP list, there's a pretty good chance he would be ready to return when first eligible in Week 8.
