Arenas recorded nine tackles and a pass defensed in six games with the Falcons in 2014. Arenas saw limited work with the Falcons in 2014, and he'll be a free agent this offseason. Based on the young depth the Falcons have at cornerback, it seems likely that Arenas will look elsewhere for a more prominent defensive role.

Falcons agreed to terms with CB/KR Javier Arenas, formerly of the Cardinals, on a one-year contract. The 2010 second-round pick of the Chiefs appeared in all 16 games for the Cardinals last season, but managed only 107 snaps on defense. He was near the bottom of the league in kick-return average. Arenas won't be guaranteed a spot on the Falcons' 53-man roster.

Cardinals acquired CB Javier Arenas from the Chiefs in exchange for FB Anthony Sherman. A nickel corner, Arenas was expected to be a return ace when the Chiefs made him the No. 50 overall pick of the 2010 draft, but he's proven to be highly ordinary on special teams. He'll be a candidate to man the slot in Arizona, but the presence of Patrick Peterson and rookie Tyrann Mathieu mean he's unlikely to be featured on returns. Arenas played a career-high 724 snaps last season, but graded out as just the No. 51 corner in Pro Football Focus' ratings. The Cardinals have now added Arenas, Antoine Cason and Jerraud Powers at cornerback this offseason. Mathieu will play safety, but could eventually see time in the slot.

Chiefs RCB Javier Arenas' 2013 salary jumped from $575,000 to $630,000 based on rookie-deal incentives. After starting three games in his first two seasons, Arenas started nine games at right corner in 2012. He opened the season as the slot corner, but Stanford Routt proved to be a free agent bust after the Chiefs lost Brandon Carr to the Cowboys. Arenas also works as Kansas City's primary punt returner.

Coach Todd Haley plans a "complete mix" of Javier Arenas, Dexter McCluster, and Steve Breaston on kick returns this season. The distribution will depend on each player's workload on offense or defense that game. Arenas and McCluster figure to be the primary returners on punts and kickoffs respectively, with Breaston filling in to give a breather.
