Trusnik signed a contract Wednesday with the Saints, Tom Pelissero of USA Today reports.
EDGE Analysis
Trusnik will provide the Saints with some depth at outside linebacker, but he's expected to make his biggest impact with New Orleans' special teams units. The 32-year-old has been out of the NFL this season after appearing in eight games with the Vikings in 2015.

Trusnik signed a one-year contract with the Panthers on Tuesday. A former undrafted free agent, the 30-year-old linebacker has carved out a lengthy career in the NFL, due in large part to his work on special teams. The Panthers do have a possible opening to fill at one of their linebacker spots, and Trusnik could be part of a competition that would likely be led by A.J. Klein. Of course, with Luke Kuechly and Thomas Davis locked into three-down roles, the Panthers can't support a third IDP option at linebacker.

Trusnik finished the 2014 campaign with 49 tackles and one interception. Trusnik played more often than what was expected due to the rash of injuries the Dolphins suffered to their linebacker corps but he still nothing more than a depth player and won't be a starter next season.

Trusnik tallied 10 tackles (five solo) during Sunday's loss to the Bills. Trusnik is the Dolphins' new starting weakside linebacker following Dannell Ellerbe (hip) being ruled out for the season. However, with Koa Misi (ankle) also sidelined Sunday, both Trusnik and teammate Jelani Jenkins were able to register double-digit tackles. Trusnik's expanded role bodes well for his IDP stock moving forward.

Trusnik is listed as the Dolphins starting OLB on the team's depth chart, according to the Miami Herald's Adam Beasley. This is not exactly breaking news after all of the injuries the Dolphins suffered to their linebacker corps Sunday. Trusnik was the favorite to start somewhere and it looks like that will be at OLB.

Trusnik will be in the mix to replace Dannell Ellerbe, according to the Miami Herald. The Dolphins are a mess at linebacker right now. Ellerbe is out for the season with a hip injury, Koa Misi is expected to miss a few games due to an ankle injury, and Phillip Wheeler was inactive Sunday due to thumb injury. Even if Trusnik doesn't start for Ellerbe, he will likely find himself in the starting lineup anyway.

Trusnik will step in to start at strong-side linebacker in place of the injured Philip Wheeler (thumb) for the Dolphins' Week 1 game against the Patriots, Andrew Abramson of the Palm Beach Post reports. Though Trusnik is technically listed as the top backup to Koa Misi in the middle, he's viewed as the team's fourth-best linebacker overall, and will therefore get the start over Wheeler's primary understudies on the outside. Wheeler is still wearing a cast on his hand and was generally a disappointment when he played last season, so with an impressive showing Sunday, Trusnik could very well end up hanging on to the starting gig.

Dolphins signed LB Jason Trusnik to a two-year, $2.17 million extension in November. The deal included a $600,000 signing bonus. Trusnik, a reserve linebacker and special teams player, is now under contract through the 2014 season. The 28-year-old has appeared in all 15 games this season, starting two games at strong-side linebacker, and has amassed 21 tackles.

Dolphins agreed to terms with LB Jason Trusnik on a two-year contract. The Browns didn't bother to tender Trusnik after he plummeted on the depth chart last season, but he has more value in a 3-4 scheme. Mostly a special teamer, the 27-year-old has experience at both inside and outside 'backer. With just 3.5 carer sacks in five seasons, however, Trusnik won't bring much pass rush.
