CSN Washington reports Redskins RT Jammal Brown's contract will automatically void on Friday, making him an unrestricted free agent. Brown was thought to be due $3.5 million after missing all of 2012 with a hip injury, but that's not the case. Injured on the eve of training camp, the eight-year veteran was ruled out for the season in late November. The move reportedly frees up $1.3 million in cap space for the cap-strapped Redskins. Brown started 26 games between 2010-11. Finding offensive line depth should be a priority for the Redskins this offseason.

Redskins placed RT Jammal Brown on injured reserve with a hip injury, ending his season. The Redskins had until Tuesday to activate Brown from the reserve/PUP list, but elected not to do so. The injury-prone former first-round pick tweaked his troublesome hip early in camp, and suffered a setback two weeks ago. He'll finish 2012 having appeared in just 27 games since 2008. Four months shy of his 32nd birthday, Brown is certain to be released in the offseason. He'll have trouble finding guaranteed money on the open market. Tyler Polumbus will finish the year out at right tackle for the Redskins.

The Redskins have until Tuesday to activate RT Jammal Brown (hip) from the PUP list. Per the Washington Post, Brown "appears to be headed for injured reserve." Brown experienced a setback two weeks ago when he tried to practice. And he was unable to practice on Monday. "I've got a feeling what direction we're going," coach Mike Shanahan conceded. Brown isn't going to play this year.

Coach Mike Shanahan indicated that RT Jammal Brown (hip surgery, PUP) encountered a setback after returning to practice Wednesday. Brown was held out of practice Thursday because he was "quite sore." Asked if he was not necessarily expecting Brown to come back this season but hoping for it, Shanahan responded, "Yeah, probably."

Redskins RT Jammal Brown (hip surgery, PUP) says he wants to play "as soon as possible." Brown practiced Monday for the first time all season and emerged feeling good. The Redskins have roughly two weeks to decide if they'll activate him. A healthy Brown would be a major upgrade on the right side for both Robert Griffin III and Alfred Morris. Current starter Tyler Polumbus is a journeyman.

Redskins RT Jamaal Brown (hip surgery) is optimistic that he can return to game action on Nov. 18. "After the surgery, about four days later, it was amazing," Brown said. "Once he got it out, I could do everything all over again." Brown is eligible to return to practice next week. Once he does return, the Redskins have 21 days to add him to the active roster. Coach Mike Shanahan's hope is that Brown will be healthy enough to play after the Week 10 bye.

Redskins RT Jammal Brown underwent surgery to repair a torn ligament in his hip. Brown's recovery timetable has been set at 4-6 weeks, making him a strong candidate for reserve/PUP. The latest surgery is a major concern considering he's been crippled by hip issues the last two seasons. Journeyman Tyler Polumbus is filling in at right tackle.

Redskins RT Jammal Brown received a second cortisone shot into his troublesome left hip this week. Brown has pain in both hips, but his left hip is the one giving him the most problems. By taking the shots, Brown is attempting to avoid surgery. He remains on active/PUP, ineligible to practice with no timetable to return. "He is still pretty sore," coach Mike Shanahan said. "He gets treatment a couple times a day. I don't see much improvement, but hopefully it comes quickly."

Redskins RT Jammal Brown (hips) is reportedly still owed $4.4 million in guaranteed bonus money. Despite a history of hip troubles, Brown was signed to a head-scratching five-year, $27.5 million contract last July. He counts $4.553 million against the 2012 cap (even if he lands on injured reserve), but that number can be reduced to $1.1 million if he's released. The 31-year-old is out "indefinitely."
