Free agent ILB James Farrior is considering retirement. Farrior's agent made the disclosure in a weekend radio interview. Farrior said he intended to continue playing after being released by the Steelers in March, but he hasn't drawn any interest. Pro Football Focus rated Farrior as one of the league's 12 worst inside linebackers during his age-36 season.

Steelers GM Kevin Colbert confirmed Monday that free agent ILB James Farrior won't be resigning with Pittsburgh. Farrior was cut in large part due to a $2.825 million salary, but also because his performance has fallen off. "When we terminated those players we felt that their time as a Steeler was over and it was time for everybody to move forward," said Colbert. "I think when they all left they know that you can never say never. But they also know that was their last time as a Steeler."

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette confirms that free agent ILB James Farrior wants to keep playing in 2012. Farrior turned 37 in January and was released by the Steelers on March 3. He'd likely have to settle for a one-year minimum contract in order to continue his playing career. Farrior is not expected back in Pittsburgh no matter what.

"There is no doubt that he wants to play, and he wants to play here," Farrior's agent told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. However, he also added, "I don't see them having the room to be able to bring (Farrior) back unless they have special needs and the ability to do so.'' Farrior will be playing elsewhere if he returns for a 16th NFL season.

The agent for ILB James Farrior said Wednesday that he expects the Steelers to release his client. "It's not a done deal, but the percentages just aren't there," said agent Ralph Cindrich. Farrior, a 15-year veteran and the Steelers' defensive captain for the last eight seasons, is due $2.825 million in 2012. All of that money would come off Pittsburgh's salary cap if he is released. The Steelers have not approached Farrior about a pay cut, and he turned 37 in January.

James Farrior is a candidate to be released prior to March 13. Farrior is 37 and is scheduled to earn $2.82 million in 2012. Although his production on the field has waned, he's the veteran leader of the defense. The cap-strapped Steelers are going to have a lot of tough decisions to make this offseason. Mainstays Aaron Smith, Bryant McFadden, Casey Hampton and Larry Foote are also candidates for release.

Steelers ILB James Farrior has no plans to retire this offseason. The 15-year veteran turns 37 next week, and his 86 tackles leave him on pace for the second-fewest since joining the Steelers in 2002. Per the Tribune-Review, Farrior is in the last year of his contract. The Steelers have decisions to make on two team leaders, as Hines Ward's future is up in the air as well.

LaMarr Woodley (hamstring) remains out, though the Steelers fully expect him to return after the Week 11 bye. Hines Ward (head) and Jerricho Cotchery (knee) are both active.
