Free agent JaMarcus Russell has canceled his April 10 Pro Day-style workout. He now wants to work out for teams individually. Russell, 27, is training with former longtime NFL quarterback Jeff Garcia in order to refine his passing skills and get into the 260-pound range. He weighed 310 when the comeback began, but there were reports last week that Russell still weighs near 290.

A scout tells CBS Sports that there's a "good chance" free agent JaMarcus Russell gets another shot in the NFL. "I've been following his comeback story pretty closely," the scout said. "I think a lot of teams are." Russell has been out of the league since the Raiders gave up on him following the 2009 season. He's working his way back into shape, reportedly losing more than 30 pounds off his previously rotund 300-plus pound frame. Still, it would be a leap of faith for a team to think Russell can help them.

Free agent JaMarcus Russell is still planning to conduct a "Pro Day" style workout this offseason. He's working out with former NFL QB Jeff Garcia in preparation (so is Mark Sanchez). "The plan right now is to continue to prepare him for another month and put together a pro day where teams can come and see JaMarcus,'' Garcia said. "Granted his back is against the wall. This is a situation where if he doesn't do it now, it may never happen." Russell is hoping to get his weight in the 270-range. Russell's last chance has likely already come and gone.

Free agent JaMarcus Russell will hold a "pro day" on or around April 10. Russell has been training at TEST Football Academy in San Diego with Jeff Garcia in hopes of making a comeback. He recently weighed under 300 pounds -- an accomplishment for Russell -- but still has "hills to climb." Russell will be throwing to Larry Fitzgerald and ex-Bucs WR Michael Clayton at the workout.

Free agent QB JaMarcus Russell recently registered a 5.2 forty-yard dash and 29-inch vertical as he attempts his NFL comeback. Russell is training at the TEST Football Academy in San Diego. "I think he's got some hills to climb," acknowledged TEST CEO Brian Martin. Russell's goals are a 4.8 forty time and 33-inch vertical. "I'm heavier than normal," conceded Russell, who weighed 310 when he began his comeback. Russell's weight goal is 265. He's planning a Pro Day-type workout at some point this offseason.

Profootballtalk's Mike Florio reports the Jets have "no interest" in JaMarcus Russell. Late Monday night, the Newark Star-Ledger reported the Jets held "very exploratory, informal discussions" about adding Russell to their bag of quarterbacks. It's not all that surprising to hear the Jets saying they're not interested, but it was fun for the half of a day that it lasted. However, the Sideline View's Adam Caplan reports Russell has hired a personal trainer and is in search of an agent currently. So, he does seem intent on at least trying to get a job offer.

The Newark Star-Ledger reports the Jets have had "some very exploratory, informal discussions" regarding ex-Raiders QB JaMarcus Russell. Russell, of course, was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2007 draft and has been out of the league since 2009. However, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported last week that Russell is planning to show his face at the NFL Scouting Combine next month in hopes of making a comeback. Russell is currently tipping the scales at 305 pounds, but hopes to get down to his past playing weight of around 260. The Star-Ledger says these talks happened after Mike Tannenbaum was fired, but it's unclear if John Idzik was in the fold, yet. Only the Jets.

Ex-Raiders QB JaMarcus Russell is reportedly contemplating a comeback with the Louisiana Swashbucklers of the Professional Indoor Football League. The Swashbucklers refuse to confirm or deny the "swirling" rumors. If true, it's evidence that Russell would ultimately like to get back in the NFL. Still just 26 years old, Russell hasn't played since the 2009 season.
