NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reports free agent JaMarcus Russell's Friday workout with the Bears is expected to be more of an "information gathering" session than final step before a contract. It makes sense, as Russell hasn't put anything on tape since January 2010. It's a minor miracle Russell has found a team that's even willing to "gather information" on his current status. According to USA Today, Russell is also drawing interest from the Ravens, but Profootballtalk reports that's not the case.

USA Today reports free agent QB JaMarcus Russell is drawing a "significant amount of interest" from the Ravens in addition to the Bears. Let's get the party started. Teams must actually like what they're seeing/hearing from the No. 1 overall pick of the 2007 draft, whose last NFL pass came in January 2010. Still only 28 (in August), Russell's booming arm is the stuff of legends, but so is his terrible work ethic and off-the-field issues. He'd have to show extremely well in camp to get a crack at a 53-man roster spot.

ESPN Chicago reports the Bears will work out free agent QB JaMarcus Russell on Friday. It would appear reports of Russell drawing interest haven't been totally agent-driven, after all. Per NFL.com's Ian Rapoport, Bears coach Marc Trestman is "intrigued" by the former/current colossal draft bust. The Bears will still work out "three other signal callers," however. Russell has a long way to go before he cracks someone's training camp roster, let alone 53-man roster. It remains extremely unlikely that he will. His only shot will be landing with an outside-the-box thinker like Trestman.

Free agent Jamarcus Russell is reportedly "more than open" to signing with a CFL team if he doesn't get an NFL chance in the next 30 to 45 days. Russell has shed 50 pounds, returning to the 265-pound mark he entered the league at way back in 2007. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport says more than one NFL team now has "significant" interest, but added that there's plenty of interest from the CFL. Russell, who made roughly $39 million during his three seasons with the Raiders, has clearly been humbled. He's being tutored by Jeff Garcia and Marshall Faulk, and is on the way to finally shedding his well-deserved "lazy" label.

NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reports free agent QB JaMarcus Russell is garnering significant interest from "more than one" team. However, the teams aren't identifying themselves because they don't want to be associated with the media circus it would create. Russell has moved his training to Florida and hired Eugene Parker to represent him as he attempts to complete his comeback. If he fails to make an NFL roster, Russell will look to the CFL for an opportunity.

Free agent JaMarcus Russell is reportedly down to 265 pounds. When Russell started his latest comeback attempt, he was at 315. Shedding 50 pounds shows the former No. 1 overall pick is committed, but another shot in the NFL still appears highly unlikely. Russell will turn 28 in August and has been out of the league since 2009.

The National Football Post reports free agent JaMarcus Russell remains "overweight and out of shape" despite a comeback attempt that began in January. There is "very little interest" in Russell because NFL front-office personnel believe he "hasn't changed his habits" and "hasn't learned anything." NFP reports "it seems unlikely at this point that he'll get another chance" in the league. Russell turns 28 in August. He remains the biggest bust in NFL history.

ESPN Chicago reports the Bears are "not even remotely" interested in free agent QB JaMarcus Russell. TFY Draft Insider's Tony Pauline reported earlier on Wednesday that the Bears and Cardinals had been showing the most interest in the former No. 1 overall pick. Mike Jurecki of XTRA910 in Arizona says the Cardinals have "zero interest." Chicago currently has Josh McCown as Jay Cutler's top backup, but they're more likely to look toward the draft for an upgrade.

Mike Jurecki of XTRA910 in Phoenix says the Cardinals have "zero interest" in free agent JaMarcus Russell. It's going to be a public relations nightmare for a team to sign one of the biggest busts in NFL draft history, so there will be plenty of interest denials around the league as Russell tries to stage his unlikely comeback bid. Regardless, the Cardinals appear content with Drew Stanton as Carson Palmer's backup. Their franchise quarterback of the future should come via the draft either this year or next, not via a player that has deservedly been out of the league since 2009.

According to TFY Draft Insider, the Bears and Cardinals have shown the most interest in free agent QB JaMarcus Russell. The USA Today adds the Jets to the list of teams possible interested in the former No. 1 overall pick. Russell won't have a Pro Day, instead saying teams prefer he works out individually at their facility. Per TFY, he's down to roughly 280 pounds after weighing in at 311 when his comeback began. Russell needs to get into the 260s to be taken seriously.
