Peyton Manning acknowledges that the five-year, $90 million contract signed after the lockout is essentially a "one-year deal with a four-year extension, if you will." "I wasn't healthy when I signed the contract," conceded Manning, "and if I'm not healthy in February, I think it's fair for the Colts to be able to make their decision there." According to NFL Network's Michael Lombardi, Manning will be due a $35 million commitment in February. Whether he sees that money or not depends on the progress of the fusion in his neck.

Fusion in your neck just doesn't even sound good.

is that like jazz/metal fusion?

I had the same procedure done lower in my spine. And no, it isn't mos def no good. Hopefully he will be able to play again next year. If he can't come back at 100%, I believe he has too much class to attempt a comeback. He'll retire and clear the way for Andrew Luck, now that the Colts have the inside track to the #1 pick in 2012 after Miami beat KC today.

dude there's still half a season to go

Da18thLetter28 Mon 11/7/11 4:15 PM

Agreed. There are some pretty bad teams, other than the Colts, still in the running for the Luck race. Seattle, Washington and Miami are all pretty bad and in need of a QB. Maybe even Arizona or Denver even though they are a little better at QB than the other 3. St. Louis, Minnesota and Jacksonville probably wouldn't take Luck even if they did end up with the #1 pick.

Yes. Plenty of teams left in the running, and plenty of time for the standings to jumble up some. I wasn't suggesting that Indy has it locked up by any means. But let's be real for a second...Indy's QB is Curtis Painter. He's a pretty cool cat, but the Colts don't have much of a chance to win games with him under center.

That said, I think the Colts win one game this season. We'll just have to see where those other teams end up in the win column.

i think any team that can draft Luck is going to draft him. You're telling me St. Louis and Jacksonville WOULDN'T replace the guys they have now with luck???

Da18thLetter28 Fri 11/11/11 4:15 PM

Yes, that is exactly what I am telling you. In Jacksonville's case, you don't spend a 1st round pick on a quarterback 2 seasons in a row. They drafted Gabbert for a reason. There is an outside chance in Jacksonville, but only because there will be a new head coach there. If the new head coach doesn't think he can work with Gabbert and can convince the GM and owners, then it is possible, but highly unlikely. In St. Louis, more than likely they will have the same head coach and there is no way that they would use a 1st overall pick on Bradford and then turn around a couple of seasons later and do the same thing with Luck. There is no chance that Luck goes to St. Louis unless they get some kind of outrageous offer for Bradford, which is not going to happen. Same thing goes for Minnesota. They should have the same coaching staff and you don't use 1st round picks on QBs in consecutive years unless you have no faith at all in your the QB you just drafted. Ponder is starting so obviously they have faith in him.

no way man, elite quarterbacks only come along once in a blue moon in the NFL, any team that gets that first pick is taking luck.

Da18thLetter28 Sat 11/12/11 1:47 PM

Who are you comparing Luck to? Since when is he an elite QB? There is a much higher chance that Luck will be the next JaMarcus Russell or Ryan Leaf than the next Peyton Manning. I am not going to argue that Luck is going to be the 1st overall pick. I think he will too. What I am saying is that if one of the teams, that I mentioned, does get the 1st pick, believe me, they will be trading that pick to get more depth at other positions. Jacksonville is the wild card in this scenario I mentioned because, like I said, the new head coach will have nothing invested in Gabbert. The other 2 teams feel as though they already have their "elite QB".

i personally think the rams would have no reservations about taking luck instead of bradford also. interestingly enough, i'm not sure that the vikings would take luck instead of ponder yet, because ponder has looked pretty good so far.

Well we are all entitled to our opinions. I think we are going to have to agree to disagree on this one...LOL.

When was the last time that an NFL team used the #1 overall pick to take a QB twice in 3 years? I don't think it has ever happened and as long as the same head coach is in place, I don't think it ever will. I still say that there is no way that the Rams stay with the #1 pick if they get it, unless of course there is another player that they feel as though they have to have. In that case, Luck would not be the #1 pick. There will be too many teams offering way too much to have a chance at Luck. I seriously doubt that the Rams will have the #1 pick anyway, but if they did, I see that pick being traded.

And by the way, your "elite QB" threw 2 picks and had a fumble in yesterday's loss.....LOL. HAHA I am just pulling your chain on this one, but calling him an "elite QB" at this point is a bit premature in my opinion.
