Williams' contract with the 49ers has been reworked into a one-year deal worth up to $6 million due to the uncertainty surrounding his availability for the beginning of the upcoming season, CSN Bay Area reports.
EDGE Analysis
Williams initially agreed to a reported five-year, $27.5 million contract with the 49ers following a career year last season, but after he couldn't pass a team physical due to multiple offseason ankle surgeries, Williams contract was reworked into a one-year deal. A player that's had numerous procedures to his left leg during his pro career, Williams' status for the start of the 2016 is in question following his latest operations, leaving the 49ers in need of some depth up front in case he's unavailable.

Williams inked a five-year contract with the 49ers on Wednesday, Cam Inman of the San Jose Mercury News reports.
EDGE Analysis
On the heels of the 26-year-old's best campaign of his career, the club was able to lock up the 305-pound defensive lineman just before the start of free agency. He finished 2015 having played all 16 games, recording 65 tackles (45 solo), 1.0 sack, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery, a great output for a player who struggled with injuries early in his career. The totals exceeded his other three seasons combined, and put him in contention for an IDP slot in some leagues. He should fill a similar role with the 49ers in 2016, likely placing himself on the IDP radar once again.

Williams (leg) has been participating in the 49ers' offseason program and should be ready for training camp, CSN Bay Area reports. Williams suffered a fracture in his left leg that ended his season prematurely last year. He has recovered well in the offseason and will compete for the 49ers' starting nose tackle position during training camp.

Williams (leg) is out for Sunday's game against the Giants. Williams' absence could leave San Francisco a bit more vulnerable against the run, but he's generally not a high-impact player and certainly not an IDP consideration.

Williams suffered a leg injury late in the second quarter of Sunday's win over the Saints, csnbayarea.com reports. According to coach Jim Harbaugh, it "looks like (Williams) may have a small fracture. A little above the ankle." With the nose tackle likely slated to miss some time, Quinton Dial figures to be in line for added work in the 49ers' defense in the coming weeks.

Williams led all 49ers with six tackles (all solo) in Monday's win over the Rams. Williams put together a strong performance from a position - nose tackle - that usually doesn't produce many tackles. He showed great conditioning on a play where he chased down the speedy Tavon Austin on a reverse end-around. Williams appears to be completely over the ankle injury that plagued him early in the year and will see the majority of snaps at nose tackle going forward.

Williams recorded five tackles and also swatted a pass in Sunday's loss to the Cardinals. Williams had his best game of the season Sunday. He doesn't generate much of a pass rush as the nose tackle in a 3-4 defense, but he should get his share of tackles now that he is fully healthy.
