Monroe announced his retirement from the NFL on Thursday in a letter submitted through The Players' Tribune.
EDGE Analysis
The 29-year-old Monroe was released earlier this summer by the Ravens. While he still received interest from several other teams due to his standing as one of the league's better tackles since he turned pro in 2009, Monroe cited the "traumatic injuries" he's suffered to his head and body during his football career as his main reason for stepping away. Monroe played in 93 career games with the Jaguars and Ravens in his seven NFL seasons, starting 90 of them.

Monroe has been prevented from practicing with the team and is believed to have been placed on the trading block, Mike Preston of the Baltimore Sun reports.
EDGE Analysis
The media has largely portrayed the impending divorce as singularly resulting from Monroe's endorsement of marijuana legalization in May. However, objectively speaking, Monroe is due $6.5 million in 2016, has missed 17 of Baltimore's past 32 contests, and has had teammates questioning both his work ethic and toughness since sitting out Baltimore's divisional tilt in the 2014 playoffs versus the Patriots with an 'ankle' ailment. The writing was probabilistically on the wall for Monroe once Baltimore snagged OT Ronnie Stanley in the first round of the 2016 NFL Draft (nearly two weeks prior to Monroe first endorsing the drug policy adjustment). The Chargers, Giants, and Seahawks could be the most eager teams to trade for the disgruntled lineman.

Monroe (shoulder) is listed as probable for Sunday's game against the Jaguars.
EDGE Analysis
Monroe isn't having a particularly good season, but his return to action will keep backup left tackle James Hurst off the field, which is excellent news for the entire Baltimore offense.

Monroe (concussion) is inactive Sunday against the Bengals.
EDGE Analysis
Monroe will rest for the second straight week, leaving Joe Flacco once again without his regular left tackle.

Monroe (concussion) is inactive Sunday against the Raiders.
EDGE Analysis
Monroe, the Ravens' starting left tackle, won't be able to protect Joe Flacco's blind side. Also, his absence will produce a slight downgrade to the running game.

Monroe is doubtful for Sunday's game against the Falcons, Jason Butt of the National Football Post reports. This would be the fourth straight game missed for Monroe, as undrafted rookie James Hurst is once again tasked with keeping Joe Flacco off the ground. With Monroe's partner on the left side, guard Kelechi Osemele, also doubtful, you'd think pass protection could be an issue for the Ravens. However, the Ravens were missing that left side last week against the Buccaneers and didn't give up a single quarterback hit.

Monroe (knee) returned to practice Thursday, Jeff Zrebiec of The Baltimore Sun reports. Monroe missed the last three games after having a minor surgical procedure, but he may stand a chance to return for Sunday's contest against the Falcons. Backup left tackle James Hurst struggled the past two games, after a strong showing in his first career start. With starting left guard Kelechi Osemele (knee) also hoping to return this week, the Ravens may have all five starters on an offensive line that's been among the league's best this season.

Monroe will miss multiple weeks after having a minor surgical procedure on his knee Wednesday, The Ravens' official website reports. This is a huge loss for a Baltimore offensive line that has looked fantastic through three games. Monroe, who signed a five-year, $37.5 million deal in the offseason, will likely be replaced as the starting left tackle by undrafted rookie James Hurst. The likely drop-off at such a significant position is bad news for Joe Flacco owners.

Ravens re-signed LT Eugene Monroe to a five-year, $37.5 million deal. The deal includes $19 million guaranteed. It's less than Branden Albert got from the Dolphins (five years, $46M with $25M guaranteed) and Rodger Saffold landed with the Raiders (five years, $42.5M with $21M guaranteed). In other words, GM Ozzie Newsome has done it again. Monroe was our No. 3 free agent available at any position, behind only Jimmy Graham and Greg Hardy -- who were franchise tagged. Monroe has been a top-10 tackle in Pro Football Focus' rankings in three straight years.

NFL Network's Aditi Kinkhabwala reports the "buzz from inside Ravens headquarters" is that the team and free agent LT Eugene Monroe are "very close" to a new deal. With the offensive tackle market taking shape -- Branden Albert headed to Miami, Rodger Saffold to Oakland, Jared Veldheer to Arizona, and Anthony Collins to Tampa -- the Ravens realize they need to pony up the cash for Monroe if they want to keep him. Talks between the two sides have heated up the past two days. If Monroe signs before 4 PM, Michael Oher will be the top tackle available.
