The Saints terminated Lorig's contract Tuesday.
EDGE Analysis
After losing the top fullback job to Austin Johnson, Lorig will hit the road with hopes of landing elsewhere. At the very least, Lorig can act as a pass-catching threat out of the backfield, as evidenced by 32 catches (on 50 targets) for 157 yards in 41 games over the last three seasons.

Lorig has lost the starting fullback job to Austin Johnson, reports the New Orleans Times-Picayune, and is a candidate to be cut.
EDGE Analysis
There was some excitement for Lorig's signing last offseason, as he has proven in his career to be a capable receiver, and the Saints love to utilize their fullbacks and tight ends around the goal line. Lorig, however, missed all of training camp last year and the first six games of the 2014 regular season with a significant ankle injury. With Johnson having seized the job last season and maintaining his hold on it this preseason, Lorig's position on the Saints' final 53-man roster appears to be in jeopardy.

Lorig (leg) is out for Sunday's game against Atlanta. The fullback has been out since August 2, and apparently there's no timetable for a return at this point. Austin Johnson is the next fullback in line.

Lorig (ankle) remains out with an ankle injury, and no timetable for his return has been publicized, according to the New Orleans Times-Picayune. Lorig has not practiced or attended practice in any capacity since the Black & Gold scrimmage on August 2. In a bit of a surprise, Lorig made the Saints final 53-man roster, which could indicate he's close to returning, but it's been over a month since he's made an appearance for the Saints. If he returns, he could have some value in touchdown-heavy formats, but it remains to be seen when he will actual see the field again.

Lorig (leg) missed practice again on Wednesday, reports ESPN.com. Lorig has been sidelined for nearly two weeks, but the Saints have not offered any details on the severity of his injury. Lorig, a five-year veteran, was thought to have a firm grasp on the starting fullback position in his first season with the Saints. While most fullbacks in the league have little fantasy value, the Saints have not shied from featuring its fullback around the goal line on both the ground and through the air. As an apt pass catcher - he had 33 total receptions in Tampa Bay the last two years - Lorig, in theory, would have been a great fit for the Saints. With each practice Lorig misses, however, his hold on the starting gig, and likely a roster spot, slips, particularly with the Saints signing veteran Greg Jones last week.

Saints signed FB Erik Lorig, formerly of the Bucs, to a four-year contract. Lorig, 27, is replacing Jed Collins as the Saints lead blocker. Neither is particularly strong as an actual blocker, per PFF. Lorig has never carried the ball in four seasons but has 30 career catches for 193 yards and a score.

The Saints hosted free agent FB Erik Lorig this week. The Saints currently have no fullbacks on the roster after declining to tender RFA Jed Collins. Lorig offers more versatility as a receiver than Collins.

The Bucs reportedly hope to re-sign free agent FB Erik Lorig. The news comes via a series of glowing tweets from CBS' Jason La Canfora, who almost certainly has the ear of Lorig's agent. La Canfora expects "several" teams to be interested. Going on 28, Lorig was just the No. 19 fullback in Pro Football Focus' ratings last season, so it's not as if there's going to be a bidding war. Lorig will struggle for guaranteed money, as all fullbacks do.

ESPN's John Clayton expects the Bucs to re-sign free agent FB Erik Lorig. Lorig was the Bucs' primary lead blocker this past season and graded out as the No. 19 fullback by Pro Football Focus. He shouldn't require more than a non-guaranteed, one-year contract to return.

Bucs FB Erik Lorig will make his season debut Sunday after missing Week 1 with a calf injury. Lorig's Week 1 absence may have played a role in Doug Martin's inability to find running lanes against the Jets; the Buccaneers often employ Lorig as a lead blocker in the I-formation. Lorig also chips in on special teams. Expect a bounce-back game from Martin against the talent-deficient Saints defense.
