Florence will officially announce his retirement from the NFL on Friday, Aaron Wilson of the National Football Post reports. The 34-year-old Florence spent parts of 12 NFL seasons with the Chargers, Panthers, Lions, Jaguars, and Broncos, recording 20 career interceptions and three touchdowns. He sat out the 2014 season after failing to land a roster spot with the Lions out of training camp.

Florence was released by the Lions on Tuesday, the Detroit Free Press reports. Florence was signed earlier this month, but failed to impress during his short stint in Detroit. The 33-year-old will now hit the free agent market after recording 26 tackles (19 solo) and two interceptions for the Panthers last season.

Florence signed with the Lions on Thursday, NFL.com reports. Florence will compete with the likes of Cassius Vaughn and Jonte Green for the role of fourth cornerback, which is arguably the Lions' weakest position in camp. Previously a member of the organization for eight games in 2012, Florence acted as the Panthers' nickleback, posting 26 tackles (19 solo), two interceptions, and a touchdown.

In addition to Aaron Ross and Brandon Flowers, the Ravens are showing interest in free agent CB Drayton Florence. The Ravens want stiffer nickel-back competition for Chykie Brown than Asa Jackson. Florence, 33, is the oldest of the players under consideration for Baltimore, but is coming off the best 2013 season. He made five starts for Carolina's stout pass defense, recording 26 tackles and a pair of interceptions.

Free agent CB Drayton Florence visited the Titans on Tuesday. It's the first we've heard of Florence since the end of last season. Florence had a nice comeback year in 2013, but was helped along mightily by the Panthers' dominant front seven. Now 33, he'll have to be amenable to a minimum deal.

Free agent LCB Drayton Florence is considered "doubtful" to return to the Panthers. 33-year-old journeyman Florence had something of a renaissance 2013 season, grading out as Pro Football Focus' No. 22 corner among 110 qualifiers. He was obviously helped by Carolina's dominant defensive front seven, though. Florence should generate free-agent interest as an experienced nickel or dime back.

Panthers CB Drayton Florence (groin) did not practice Saturday and is listed as questionable for Week 11. Florence was held out of practice due to groin soreness, but it's not a major concern. Coach Ron Rivera said that he's confident Florence will be healthy enough to play in Monday night's game against the Patriots.

Panthers re-signed CB Drayton Florence. Carolina is severely banged up in the secondary. Cornerbacks Josh Thomas (concussion), Josh Norman (thigh), and D.J. Moore (knee) all sat out Wednesday's practice, and Moore has already been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Giants. Florence spent the entire summer and preseason with the Panthers.

Panthers released CB Drayton Florence. They'll bite the bullet on Florence's $65K signing bonus and move forward with young corners Josh Norman and Josh Thomas behind Captain Munnerlyn. Florence is 32 now and has little left. It's an obvious sign for his future NFL prospects that Florence couldn't make arguably the NFL's worst secondary.

The Charlotte Observer considers CB Drayton Florence a "favorite" for a starting job. This is the same Drayton Florence who was released twice in 2012. He wasn't re-signed by the Lions after missing time with a concussion and forearm injury, and struggling in the 310 snaps he managed to take the field for. Beat writer Joseph Person projects Florence to start opposite Josh Norman, with D.J. Moore and Captain Munnerlyn fighting for snaps in the slot. With only five picks, the Panthers didn't draft a corner. It's not a good situation.
