Sherrod was cut by the Packers on Monday, Wes Hodkiewicz of the Green Bay Press Gazette reports. The 2011 first-rounder has dealt with injuries throughout his brief career, limiting him to just one start in three seasons. The Packers signed 2013 fourth-round pick, center J.C. Tretter, on Monday to fill Sherrod's roster spot.

Packers OT Derek Sherrod spent the entire offseason program at right tackle. The Packers want the walk-year lineman to focus on one position after being limited to 13 appearances through his first three NFL seasons. OL coach James Campen was impressed with Sherrod's offseason. "The kid looks terrific," Campen said. "The next step for him is to get him into the daily grind, put the pads on and go pound it." Sherrod is not in the mix for a starting job.

The Packers will not exercise 2011 first-round pick Derek Sherrod's fifth-year option. The option would've cost Green Bay $7.438 million, so it's a no-brainer move after Sherrod failed to earn a single start his first three NFL seasons. Finally healthy since his catastrophic 2011 leg injury, Sherrod will compete for playing time in training camp, ideally winning the "swing" tackle job behind LT David Bakhtiari and RT Bryan Bulaga. Sherrod turned 25 late last month.

Packers OT Derek Sherrod is entering his first full, healthy offseason as an NFL player. Sherrod finally recovered from his 2011 compound leg fracture enough to contribute on special teams down the 2013 stretch. In an ideal scenario, Sherrod would step up as Green Bay's No. 6 offensive lineman, capably backing up both tackle and guard spots. Sherrod was the 32nd overall pick in the 2011 draft.

Packers OT Derek Sherrod was active Sunday for the first time since his catastrophic 2011 leg injury. Sherrod didn't get any snaps on offense, merely being used as a blocker on place kicks. Still, it's a step in right direction as the former first-round pick slowly makes his way back. The banged-up Packers could certainly use him.

Packers activated OT Derek Sherrod (leg) from the reserve/PUP list. The No. 32 overall pick of the 2011 draft, Sherrod last appeared in a game on Dec. 18, 2011, where he suffered a severe leg break. Sherrod underwent surgery in the offseason after suffering a setback. He'll now provide depth a for a team that's been getting some of the league's worst tackle play. Sherrod is unlikely to immediately push for a starting job after so much time away, and may not even be active for Week 10.

Packers OT Derek Sherrod (leg, reserve/PUP) is practicing Wednesday. Sherrod is still working his way back from a broken right tibia and fibula in December of 2011. It's a good sign that he was able to practice when first eligible, but he's doubtful to make an impact this season. The Packers have three weeks to decide whether to add Sherrod to their active roster.

Packers placed OT Derek Sherrod (leg) on reserve/PUP. Sherrod broke his right tibia and fibula in December of 2011 and still isn't healed. He didn't play a single snap last year and will miss at least the first six games of this year. The failures of Sherrod, a 2011 first-round pick, is part of the reason Aaron Rodgers was sacked a league-high 51 times in 2012.
