Despite being listed as questionable on the injury report, Jaguars RCB Derek Cox (back) played 72-of-72 defensive snaps in Week 9. Cox finished with five tackles (all solo). A contract-year player, Cox has an awful lot of talent but has been on the shelf all too often through his first four NFL seasons. He'd do himself well to show some durability down the stretch.

Jaguars starting CBs Derek Cox (back) and Rashean Mathis (groin) are expected to miss Sunday's game versus the Lions. William Middleton, Mike Harris and Aaron Ross played well as fill-ins a week ago, holding Aaron Rodgers to 186 passing yards. They will face a stiff test against Calvin Johnson, Titus Young, and Ryan Broyles on Sunday.

Derek Cox (back) and Rashean Mathis (groin) were limited in Friday's practice, and coach Mike Mularkey said a decision on their status might not be made until Sunday morning. "Obviously, there's a concern based on [Green Bay] being a multi-receiver offense," Mularkey said. If either Cox or Mathis sit, the Jaguars will turn to Aaron Ross and William Middleton.

The Jaguars used Derek Cox as a shadow corner in the Week 5 loss to the Bears. After A.J. Green exploited Rashean Mathis for a 6/117/1 line in Week 4, the Jags decided to have Cox follow Brandon Marshall all over the the formation in Week 5. Marshall started slow, but ended up with a 12 catches, 144 yards and one touchdown as Cox got no help in the second half. The Jags figure to reevaluate the strategy as they head into their bye.

Jaguars RCB Derek Cox (hamstring) played 40 snaps in his season debut Week 3. Cox started opposite Rashean Mathis, sending Aaron Ross and Will Middleton back to reserve roles. He emerged from the game without aggravating that severe hamstring pull, giving the Jags' pass defense a boost. They're ranked 21st in that category through three weeks.

Jaguars RCB Derek Cox (hamstring) has resumed practicing. Thursday was Cox's first practice since injuring his hamstring in the preseason opener six weeks ago. Although Cox played in just six games last season, he held opposing QBs to the lowest passer rating of any cornerback in the league. He's expected to be limited to passing downs if he plays versus the Colts this week.

Jaguars declared CB Derek Cox (hamstring), LB Daryl Smith (groin), RT Cameron Bradfield (ankle), RB Rashad Jennings (knee) and Eben Britton (ankle) inactive for Sunday's game against the Texans. The Jags are absolutely decimated by injury already. Cox, the starting right corner, will be replaced by a mixture of William Middleton and Kevin Rutland. Herb Taylor, who was signed off the street on Monday, is starting at left guard. Guy Whimper is moving over to right tackle. Look for the Texans to get a ton of pressure on Blaine Gabbert. The Jags' other two inactives are DE Austen Lane and DE George Selvie.

Jaguars RCB Derek Cox (hamstring) is not expected to play in Week 1. We'd call this an upgrade for someone's fantasy matchup if the Vikings had anyone capable of exposing fill-in CB William Middleton outside the numbers. They don't. Percy Harvin is a slot receiver, and the only other fantasy-viable pass catcher in Minnesota is Kyle Rudolph. Cox, who is Jacksonville's top cover man, has been out since early- to mid-August with a hamstring strain.

Jaguars RCB Derek Cox is out two weeks with a hamstring strain. Talented but oft-injured, Cox has battled numerous lower-leg injuries throughout his career. The Jaguars will likely turn to William Middleton at right corner in Cox's absence. The Jags' top cover man should still be ready by Week 1.

Derek Cox is expected to keep his starting right cornerback following the signing of Aaron Ross. "Derek and Rashean [Mathis], up until their injuries, I thought they were playing very good football," said GM Gene Smith. Coach Mike Mularkey acknowledged that Mathis, coming off ACL surgery, will battle Ross for the left cornerback job.
