Ausberry signed with the Lions on Wednesday, Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports. Ausberry spent last season with the Raiders but only saw action in six games and ultimately ended the year on the IR with a foot injury. Now with Detroit, the 27 year old should have a hard time getting snaps this season with the already established trio of Brandon Pettigrew, Eric Ebron, and Joseph Fauria ahead of Ausberry on the depth chart.

With Ausberry -- who was limited to two receptions for 14 yards in six games this season -- out for the season, Mychal Rivera and Brian Leonhardt will continue to serve as the Raiders' top two tight ends down the stretch.

Little has been reported in terms of Ausberry's progress in the weeks since he suffered the foot injury, but he's been unable to return to practice in any capacity. Thus, it would seem his chances of returning in Week 13 are slim, and although the team hasn't suggested as much, a move to IR could still be on the table.

Ausberry (foot) did not participate in Tuesday's practice. Ausberry has already missed three straight contest due to the foot ailment, and doesn't appear to be any closer to a return. Unless he's able to make a surprise appearance on the practice field in advance of Thursday's game, Ausberry will likely be inactive once again, leaving Mychal Rivera as the Raiders' top tight end target.
