Ogbonnaya has announced his retirement, ESPN's Adam Caplan reports. The 29-year-old Ogbonnaya carved out a nice career for a seventh-round draft pick, suiting up for 53 games between five different teams. He retires with 158 carries for 710 yards and two touchdowns, along with 96 receptions for 714 yards and another two scores. He wasn't an especially talented runner, but made up for it with his ability to contribute as a fullback, pass-catcher and special-teamer.

The Giants have terminated Ogbonnaya's contract, the team's official site reports. Following Ogbonnaya's release, the Giants' backfield is now headed by Rashad Jennings, Shane Vereen, Andre Williams and Orleans Darkwa.

Ogbonnaya re-signed with the Giants on Tuesday, ESPN's Dan Graziano reports. Ogbonnaya will likely have to compete for a roster spot, as the Big Blue backfield now includes Shane Vereen, Rashad Jennings and Andre Williams. The team could opt to keep four running backs, with Ogbonnaya capable of playing fullback and contributing on special teams. Assuming he sticks with the Giants, Ogbonnaya is unlikely to get more than a few touches in 2015.

Ogbonnaya signed with the Giants on Tuesday. Ogbonnaya wasn't out of work for long, as he signed with New York just three days after being released by Carolina. Ian Rapoport of NFL.com reported Monday that Giants starter Rashad Jennings (knee) is unlikely to miss time, but Ogbonnaya will provide an insurance policy in Week 14 against the Titans. Ogbonnaya totaled just 50 yards on 14 carries with the Panthers (3.6 YPC) and would likely work behind Andre Williams if Jennings were forced to sit.

Ogbonnaya was waived by the Panthers on Saturday. With DeAngelo Williams' foot seemingly at or close to 100 percent following the bye, and Jonathan Stewart and Fozzy Whittaker both healthy as well, the team went ahead and waived Ogbonnaya and added some defensive line depth in Micanor Regis. Ogbonnaya carried the ball 14 times in five games with Carolina this season, the last of which came back in Week 8.

Ogbonnaya is inactive for Sunday's game against the Falcons. Ogbonnaya was re-signed to the Panthers' active roster after being released earlier this month, but he's fourth on the depth chart at running back and will not be in uniform Sunday.

Ogbonnaya was released by the Panthers on Monday, Jim Thomas of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. With the Panthers' stable of running backs returning to full health, Obgonnaya's services were simply no longer needed. The 28-year-old appeared in three games after signing in early October, rushing for 50 yards on 14 carries.

Ogbonnaya (groin) is active for Sunday's game against the Seahawks. During Friday's practice, Ogbonnaya came down with a sore groin, which required a cart to leave the field. Although he's recovered sufficiently to act as depth to Jonathan Stewart and Darrin Reaves, Ogbonnaya's recent injury scare may mean that he's available only in case of an emergency.

Ogbonnaya was carted off the practice field Friday because of groin soreness and did not return, the Charlotte Observer's Jonathan Jones reports. He is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Seahawks. Few position groups in the NFL this season have fallen victim to injury as frequently as the Panthers' running backs. Now that Jonathan Stewart is back, Ogbonnaya was not in line for a significant workload, but his absence would clear the way for Darrin Reaves to serve as the primary backup to Stewart.

Ogbonnaya was carted off the practice field Friday, the Charlotte Observer's Joe Person reports. No details are available at this time, so this could be an injury or something as innocuous as an equipment problem. Either way, Ogbonnaya had just five carries for 17 yards in last week's loss to Green Bay and does not make for a very appealing fantasy play Sunday against Seattle.
