Cook re-signed with the 49ers on Tuesday on a one-year, $1.3 million contract, Aaron Wilson of the National Football Post reports. Cook appeared in six games as a reserve defensive back before a hamstring injury ended his season in October. He'll return to the 49ers to help restore some secondary depth after starting cornerback Chris Culliver departed for Washington in free agency.

Cook (hamstring) was placed on injured reserve Saturday, ESPN's Adam Caplan reports. Inked to a one-year deal in March, Cook saw limited action in the secondary for San Francisco, with the majority of his playing time coming on special teams. The 27-year-old Cook recorded just six solo tackles in six games this season, and for his career (40 games), he has just one sack and zero interceptions.

Cook recorded two tackles and an interception in Thursday's preseason loss to the Ravens. Cook - who has zero career interceptions in 34 games - has been working on his ball hawking skills this off-season, and it showed on the field Thursday. It is generally accepted that rookie first-rounder, Jimmie Ward, will line up at the nickel this season, but Cook's strong off-season will undoubtedly have him in the picture for the team's fourth cornerback spot on the depth chart.

Cook picked off two passes during Monday's practice and has been working on his ball skills this off-season, the Sacramento Bee reports. Cook - who started 30 games over four years in Minnesota - has never made an interception in his NFL career. This is something he has been working on in the off-season in order to improve that aspect of his game. Cook is currently battling for one of the backup corner spots behind Chris Culliver and Tramaine Brock.

Chris Cook worked as the 49ers' starting right cornerback throughout spring practices. Chris Culliver is coming off a torn ACL, and Eric Wright retired. Tramaine Brock will play left cornerback for San Francisco this year. A rehab project signed to a one-year, minimum contract this offseason, Cook will give Culliver his toughest competition in camp. Jimmie Ward is penned in at slot corner.

49ers agreed to terms with CB Chris Cook, formerly of the Vikings, on a one-year contract. Cook is an imposing 6-foot-2, 212-pound press corner with 4.4 speed, but could never get it together in Minnesota, on or off the field. CSN Bay Area believes he won't be guaranteed a roster spot. Nevertheless, Cook is an upside signing for a smart front office. The 49ers are completely remaking their cornerback corps.

Free agent CB Chris Cook will visit the 49ers on Thursday. The 49ers are in the process of overhauling their cornerback corps, and Cook would be an intriguing flier. His game has never matched his measurables, however.

Free agent CB Chris Cook put out a series of tweets Monday evening after speaking to new Vikings coach Mike Zimmer. "Talked to Zimmer today," Cook said. "He told me like it is. If it's in the cards I look forward to having him at the helm." It sounds like Zimmer didn't beat around the bush with Cook, which is something players respect and Zimmer is known for. We'd love to see what Zimmer could do with Cook, a 6-foot-2, 212-pound press corner with 4.4 wheels who's been an underachiever to this point.

Free agent CB Chris Cook said he would "love" to re-sign with the Vikings. "From what I've heard, [coach Mike Zimmer]'s probably one of the best DB coaches in the game right now," Cook said. "So that's a positive for me if I get the opportunity to work with him." Zimmer has saved many careers. Pacman Jones and Terence Newman are a couple. Cook has been a bust since being the No. 34 overall pick in the 2010 draft due to poor play and an inability to stay healthy. Someone will take a shot on his 6-foot-2, 212-pound frame.
