Cook re-signed with the 49ers on Tuesday on a one-year, $1.3 million contract, Aaron Wilson of the National Football Post reports. Cook appeared in six games as a reserve defensive back before a hamstring injury ended his season in October. He'll return to the 49ers to help restore some secondary depth after starting cornerback Chris Culliver departed for Washington in free agency.

Inked to a one-year deal in March, Cook saw limited action in the secondary for San Francisco, with the majority of his playing time coming on special teams. The 27-year-old Cook recorded just six solo tackles in six games this season, and for his career (40 games), he has just one sack and zero interceptions.

Cook - who has zero career interceptions in 34 games - has been working on his ball hawking skills this off-season, and it showed on the field Thursday. Cook - who started 30 games over four years in Minnesota - has never made an interception in his NFL career. This is something he has been working on in the off-season in order to improve that aspect of his game. Cook is currently battling for one of the backup corner spots behind Chris Culliver and Tramaine Brock.
