Free agent QB Charlie Batch says he has no plans to retire this offseason. Now 38 years old, Batch will keep his phone on in case a team gets desperate for an in-season quarterback addition. We wouldn't expect him to be signed before Week 1. "I'm not closing the door," said Batch. "I'm open to whatever is out there for me." Batch is also interested in working in an NFL front office.

Free agent QB Charlie Batch isn't expecting to be re-signed by the Steelers. After the Steelers signed Bruce Gradkowski to back up Ben Rothelisberger, it seemed to close the door on a Batch, 38, return. Pittsburgh then drafted Landry Jones over the weekend, and that locked the door. The Steelers will likely keep Batch's number handy in case of an injury during the season.

Free agent QB Charlie Batch plans on re-signing with the Steelers. "My plan is to come back, and I haven't heard anything differently from the organization," Batch said. The 38-year-old will likely be back on the veteran's minimum, but the Steelers would be wise to draft a developmental signal caller in the middle rounds of the draft.

Free agent QB Charlie Batch wants to play in 2013. Following injuries to Ben Roethlisberger and Byron Leftwich, Batch was forced into action last season. He was nothing short of inept against the Browns in Week 12, but somehow went into Baltimore in Week 13 and pulled off an upset. Now 38, it's unlikely that the Steelers will want Batch back. They'd do well to select a developmental quarterback in the draft and install him as Big Ben's backup.

Coach Mike Tomlin said Tuesday that for now, Charlie Batch is "our guy." Tomlin isn't making any declarations on Ben Roethlisberger's status until he sees him perform at Wednesday's practice. "As we sit here today, we are building our plan around Charlie," he said. However, the reliable Post-Gazette has already reported that the Steelers expect to have their franchise quarterback under center for Sunday and ESPN is on the record saying Roethlisberger's soreness is diminishing. Expect Tomlin to change his tune by Wednesday or Thursday.

The Steelers are preparing to start Charlie Batch at Baltimore in Week 13. The coaching staff is "leaving the door open" for Ben Roethlisberger if he exceeds expectations in limited practices. Despite Batch's brutal performance at Cleveland, he would still get the call over Brian Hoyer if Roethlisberger can't go. Batch's presence would be a downgrade for the entire Steelers offense.

Charlie Batch completed 20-of-34 passes for 197 yards with no touchdowns and three interceptions in the Steelers' Week 12 loss to the Browns. It was one of the worst performances by a quarterback in the NFL this year. Batch was woefully inaccurate, even on short passes to the flat. The Steelers didn't trust him, calling run plays on third-and-mediums early on. When Batch wasn't checking down, he was just weakly chucking the ball up for grabs in the secondary. He crippled the entire offense. If Batch is forced into another start next week, the Ravens will be a premier D/ST play in fantasy circles.

NFL Network's Aditi Kinkhabwala hears that Charlie Batch will start at quarterback for the Steelers against the Browns in Week 12.

The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review expects both Byron Leftwich and Charlie Batch to crack the Steelers' 53-man roster following the release of Troy Smith. Leftwich is the favorite to back-up Ben Roethlisberger, but the 37-year-old Batch's roster spot wasn't assured with Smith in town. With Roethlisberger now on the wrong side of 30 and coming off a season where he was bothered by a lingering ankle injury, the Steelers should be fully expected to carry three quarterbacks.

Steelers re-signed QB Charlie Batch to a one-year contract. Aside from perhaps retirement, the 37-year-old Batch was never headed elsewhere. A backup in Pittsburgh since 2003, Batch led the Steelers to a 27-0 victory over the Rams in his lone start last season, completing 15-of-22 passes for 208 yards and a score. His re-signing may mean free agent Byron Leftwich will move on. Troy Smith is the favorite for the Steelers' third-string job.
