The IDP Dating Game - Ideal Landing Spots for FA LBs fantasysharks.com Fri 3/1/13 10:00 AM

Since this is an article geared towards the best fantasy landing spot for a particular player we will forego the pleasantries of whether or not a team can actually afford to sign a certain player and focus on why he would be an ideal fit. Let's leave the financial situations to the real general managers and enjoy an unencumbered look at Individual Defensive Player (IDP) fantasy fits for teams while not being bothered by such trivial matters as a salary cap. Hey, it's called fantasy football for a reason. Nick Barnett, OLB, Buffalo: The Detroit Lions recently brought in former Buffalo strong safety George Wilson for a free agent visit and would be wise to keep that Buffalo pipeline open and get on the phone with another cap casualty in Barnett. Both DeAndre Levy and Justin Durant are free agents heading into 2013, and, rather than dance with the devil, you know the Lions would be well served to bring in Barnett and his versatile skill set. After suffering a wrist injury that would limit him to only playing four games back in 2010 (his last season in Green Bay) Barnett has racked up 150 solos and 242 total tackles over the past two seasons in Buffalo. He's also added five sacks; four forced fumbles while intercepting three passes and returning one for a touchdown. In that same two-year time frame Levy and Durant have combined for only 2.5 sacks, two interceptions and a pair of forced fumbles on a Detroit defense that has struggled mightily against the run. While the obvious choice for Barnett to replace would be Levy as both have manned the WLB over the past couple of years, Barnett is capable of adjusting to any scheme and manned an inside linebacker position for years in Green Bay. Barnett will be 32 in May but still has some tread on his tires and actually finished as a Top 10 4-3 outside linebacker in Pro Football Focus' 2012 rankings. He would be a perfect stopgap signing for the Lions as youngsters Travis Lewis and Tahir Whitehead continue to develop. Lining up next to Stephen Tulloch in 2013 would give the Lions a pair of solid, proven linebackers to mentor the youngsters while racking up very nice tackle numbers. Barnett would have the real possibility of finishing as a Top 20 fantasy linebacker in 2013 if he should sign in Detroit. Anthony Spencer, OLB, Dallas: Spencer finally emerged from the shadow of DeMarcus Ware and posted a career-high 11 sacks last season while playing with a pectoral strain that limited him to 14 games. He would...

IDP Sleepers - Week 5 fantasysharks.com Fri 10/5/12 7:00 AM

The first quarter of the season is over, and most teams, excluding the Pittsburgh Steelers and Indianapolis Colts, have played four games. Defensive depth charts continue to change weekly. Injuries and performance issues have seen some players emerge as surprisingly effective fantasy performers (Russell Allen comes to mind) and other big names have struggled mightily out of the gate (I'm looking at you, Jared Allen). Let's keep moving forward in our quest to locate the perfect sleeper options for Week 5. LINEBACKERS Craig Robertson, OLB, Cleveland at New York Giants: Showing excellent versatility as a situational linebacker, Robertson has been a pleasant, fantasy surprise. Through four weeks, he has more than 25 total tackles, two interceptions and three passes defended. There are concerns that when James-Michael Johnson returns from injury that Robertson will fade back to the bench, but I'm not buying it. The kid has earned his playing time and it will continue in a nice matchup against the Giants in Week 5. Calvin Pace, OLB, New York Jets vs. Houston: Pace returns to the sleeper list for a second consecutive week as the Texans are coming to town. Houston is an excellent matchup for linebackers, and Pace put up a respectable Week 4 performance, mainly due to a sack and forced fumble. Look for better tackle numbers in Week 5 for Pace as Arian Foster and company pound the rock at the Jets defense. Melvin Ingram, OLB, San Diego at New Orleans : Ingram has been getting close to the quarterback in his rookie campaign; he just hasn't finished the deal, yet. He has been credited with eight quarterback hurries and deflected two passes through four games. Look for Week 5 to be his coming out party. He's being utilized as a pass rushing specialist and the Saints love to throw the ball. Ingram will see increased playing time and the Saints are a mess right now. That equates to a very productive fantasy week for the rookie. Koa Misi, LB, Miami at Cincinnati: Misi is a matchup play this week as he struggles in coverage but plays well against the run. His snap count will be up this week against the Bengals, after playing a season-low 38 snaps last week against the Arizona Cardinals. He did contribute a couple of big plays last week with a forced fumble and 1½ sacks. Solid tackle numbers and the potential for a big play or two in Week 5 make Misi a very nice sleeper candidate against Cincinnati. Ryan Kerrigan, OLB, Washington vs. Atlanta: Kerrigan is the last...

IDP Sleepers - Week 4 fantasysharks.com Fri 9/28/12 9:06 AM

As we reach the quarter pole of the season, we are beginning to see some big names go down; Darrelle Revis and Adrian Clayborn are lost for the season. While some big names are set to return, Pat Angerer, Colin McCarthy are nearly back to full health and in a couple more weeks D.J. Williams will have served his suspension. Lineups will continue to be altered by injuries and sleepers will continue to emerge from seemingly nowhere. Predicting sleepers is like riding a hummingbird; it is all over the place, but one heck of a fun ride. Let's get to it... LINEBACKERS Chase Blackburn, MLB, NEW YORK GIANTS, at PHILADELPHIA: The Giants have been using a heavy rotation at the linebacker position, utilizing six different players in week three. Blackburn has been a mainstay in the middle for the G-Men and that in and of itself, creates fantasy value. The Eagles have been a surprisingly good match up for linebackers and Blackburn will look to improve on the nine solo tackles he has to date, chasing down "Shady" McCoy and Brent Celek over the middle. Calvin Pace, OLB, NEW YORK JETS, vs. SAN FRANCISCO: Pace leads all New York outside linebackers with fourteen total stops and the 49ers offer up plenty of tackle opportunities. They are a sweet matchup for linebackers in general and Pace will have the chance to pad his tackle numbers. The Jets are struggling mightily to get pressure on the quarterback and have only managed three sacks in the first three weeks of the season. Look for New York to utilize Pace in multiple blitz packages to generate pressure on Alex Smith in week four. Vontaze Burfict, WLB, CINCINNATI, at JACKSONVILLE: Burfict has seen his snap count increase from 22 in week two, to 35 against Washington. He is being integrated into the Bengals LB rotation and faces the Jaguars in week four, who are allowing very nice fantasy numbers for linebackers. The trio of Allen, Posluszny and Bosworth combined for 25 tackles in week three against Jacksonville and Burfict will have a nice week four, fantasy wise. Takeo Spikes, LB, SAN DIEGO, at KANSAS CITY: The veteran Spikes turned in an impressive, eleven solos and thirteen total tackles against the Falcons last week. The Chargers defense is going to be on the field a lot in 2012. Do not let let the 2-0-start fool you, San Diego's offense will struggle and Spikes should continue to put up nice fantasy totals. The Chiefs and Jamaal Charles are up next, and so is another solid tackle total for Spikes. Anthony ...
