Texans re-signed WR Bryant Johnson.

The Houston Chronicle's John McClain believes free agent Bryant Johnson has a better chance to sign with the Texans than free agent Roy Williams. Neither is a good player, but Johnson has a better grasp of Gary Kubiak's offense after spending 16 games on the roster last year. The Texans' persistent interest in washed-up wideouts suggests they're not counting on much from third-round pick DeVier Posey in 2012. Posey by all accounts struggled during OTAs.

Bryant Johnson will become the Texans' No. 3 wideout while Andre Johnson (hamstring) is sidelined. Johnson is a former first-round pick that was dumped by the Lions due to a lack of production. He struggles to get open and will be the fourth option on a team that plans on going run heavy. Even deep leaguers can move along.

Coach Gary Kubiak hinted that WR Bryant Johnson is going to stick on the Texans' final roster. Johnson, who just signed on Monday, had three catches for 64 yards in last night's preseason finale. "We'll go back to see how he played but I think he should be able to help us," Kubiak said. The Texans are desperate for a No. 4 receiver behind Andre Johnson, Kevin Walter and Jacoby Jones. The declining Johnson would need multiple injuries ahead of him to get on the fantasy radar.

One of the worst wideouts in football, the 30-year-old's production and overall skill set have declined rapidly over the past 3-4 seasons. Still, the move should put Dorin Dickerson and Lestar Jean on notice.

Johnson never lived up to his three-year, $9 million deal, managing just 53 catches, 627 yards, and three TDs in two seasons. Second-rounder Titus Young will take over as Detroit's third receiver.

WR Bryant Johnson says the Lions did not approach him about taking a pay cut before the start of the lockout. They will. Due $3.2 million in the final season of a three-year pact, the quickest way for Johnson to ensure he's cut instead of Derrick Williams would be refusing to renegotiate his deal. Even if he's amenable to a large pay cut, however, he'd seem to make more sense as a candidate for release than Williams, who is still just two years removed from being a third-round pick.
