Henery was released by the Lions on Monday. Henery missed all three of his field goal attempts during his Lions' debut Sunday, when Detroit lost at home in overtime. Given that egregious performance, Henery's release Monday comes as little surprise.

Coach Jim Caldwell indicated that the Lions will be evaluating their kicking situation after Henery missed all three of his field goal attempts Sunday against the Bills, Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports. It seems likely that Henery's stint with the Lions could come to a close after Sunday's game, with former Bronco Matt Prater a name that comes to mind as a potential candidate to replace Henery, if the Lions cut him.

The Lions plan to sign Henery to replace Nate Freese as their kicker, the Detroit Free Press reports. Henery, who was cut by the Eagles in advance of the season, lands in a situation where he could regain fantasy utility working behind Detroit's offense. He's worth considering out of the gate by those affected by the fact that six teams are on bye this coming week.

Henery has been waived by the Eagles, CSN's Geoff Mosher reports. As the team's official site notes, preseason misses cost Henery, paving the way for Cody Parkey to supplant him as the Eagles' kicker. Once the roster cut-down dust has settled, Henery could catch on elsewhere, though in such a scenario, his team context would determine his fantasy viability.

With reports that fellow kicker Cody Parkey is on track to stick with the Eagles, Henery is a candidate to be cut by the team, the Star-Ledger reports. While such a decision hasn't yet been made official, based on the report, it appears as though the Eagles are poised to choose Parkey over Henery, though it won't be until roster cuts are turned in that such a scenario will be confirmed, one way or the other.

Henery lost ground in the Eagles' kicking competition due to Cody Parkey's strong performance in Thursday's preseason finale, The Philadelphia Inquirer reports. The two kickers were both expected to get chances, but the Eagles opted to give Henery's turn to Parkey, after the latter hit a 54-yard field goal. Parkey followed with a conversion from 53 yards, thus becoming the favorite for the job. Head coach Chip Kelly said that he expects to make a decision Friday, although it's hard to imagine that his mind isn't already made up.

Henery could maintain the Eagles' starting kicking position with an improved showing in Thursday's final preseason game, The News Journal reports. Henery is coming off a poor season in which he posted a career-low 82.1 percent field goal conversion rate and ranked 26th out of 35 qualified kickers in touchbacks. Even with the Eagles challenging Henery to improve this offseason, he's made just one-of-three field goal attempts during the preseason. Cody Parkey is the latest competitor to Henery, but it remains to be seen how Philadelphia's kicking duties will be handled in Thursday's preseason finale. Nonetheless, Henery's job is under careful consideration.

The Eagles are evaluating potential competitors for Henery's kicking job, Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports. A serious threat to Henery's job has not emerged, but it appears the team is not totally satisfied with how he has kicked during training camp, and wants to either provide some motivation or look at other players altogether. Though he is not a lock for the job at the moment, Henery is still the favorite to open the season as the Eagles' kicker.

Alex Henery is facing competition this offseason for the first time in his career. The Eagles signed Vanderbilt's Carey Spear aka "Murderleg" as a UDFA. Henery connected on just 82.1 percent of his field goals last season, tied for 22nd int he league. He also struggled to kick the ball out of the end zone on kickoffs.

Coach Chip Kelly expressed displeasure with the performance of K Alex Henery in Saturday's Wild Card loss to the Saints. Henery missed a 48-yard attempt and his kickoffs consistently sailed too low -- leading to a 39-yard return that set up the Saints' game-winning field goal as time expired. It's been a problem all year, as Henery couldn't even kick the ball out of the end zone in Minnesota's dome and he went just 23-of-28 on field goals. He should face competition in camp as he enters the final year of his contract in 2014.
