Cardinals coach Bruce Arians said he's targeting Week 5 as a return date for NT Alameda Ta'amu (ACL surgery). Ta'amu is five months removed from his torn ACL and not expected to be cleared for the start of training camp. A situational run-stopper, he remains likely to be stashed on the reserve/PUP list, costing him the first six games. Re-signed as an exclusive rights free agent in March, Ta'amu is playing on a one-year, $570,000 contract.

Cardinals NT Alameda Ta'amu (knee) underwent ACL surgery on Wednesday. Ta'amu suffered a torn ACL in the Cardinals' season-ending Week 17 loss to the 49ers. There's no timetable for his return to the field, but he'll almost certainly open training camp on the PUP list and is questionable for the start of the 2014 season. Ta'amu appeared in 13 games as a deep reserve this year, finishing with just seven tackles.

Steelers waived or released NT Alameda Ta'amu, WR Reggie Dunn, OT Mike Golic, C Joe Madsen, OG Chris Hubbard, LB Terence Garvin, CB Devin Smith, WR Kashif Moore, RB Alvester Alexander, TE Nathan Overbay and OT Joe Long. A 2012 fourth-rounder, Ta'amu didn't appear in a game last season, while his name only made the paper when he was arrested for DWI. Perhaps he'll be stashed on the practice squad, but the Steelers might be ready to move on.

Steelers waived NT Alameda Ta'amu and promoted WR David Gilreath from their practice squad. Ta'amu is practice-squad eligible, but the Steelers may be ready to wash their hands of him. He embarrassed the franchise with an October DUI. Ta'amu was the 109th overall pick in April's draft. Gilreath is up to play special teams on Monday Night Football. He's also receiver depth with Antonio Brown out.

Steelers NT Alameda Ta'amu has been activated from the suspended list, and will keep his roster spot. S Da'Mon Cromartie-Smith has been waived to clear a roster spot. The No. 109 pick of April's draft, Ta'amu had yet to appear in a game before his embarrassing October 14 arrest on a host of drunk driving charges. He's unlikely to be active any time soon.
