The Boston Globe believes Patriots S Adrian Wilson is on the roster bubble. Beat writer Ben Volin calls Wilson's play "reminiscent of John Lynch" in 2008. Lynch was signed to be a hard-hitter and locker-room leader, but couldn't survive final cuts. Wilson has been running behind Steve Gregory opposite Devin McCourty.

Adrian Wilson will open training camp as the Patriots' starting strong safety. Wilson was reduced to a part-time role with the Cardinals in 2012, but should get the majority of playing time as an in-the-box safety in the Patriots' base defense. He enters camp as the favorite to start and will likely be replaced by Steve Gregory and Tavon Wilson in passing situations.

Patriots agreed to terms with SS Adrian Wilson, formerly of the Cardinals, on a three-year contract. Wilson was one of the many veterans the Patriots hosted for a Friday visit. After grading out as Pro Football Focus' No. 2 safety in 2011, Wilson fell all the way to No. 59 in 2012 while being benched from Arizona's nickel defense midway through the season. 33-year-old Wilson is an in-the-box safety who will likely play early downs before being replaced by some combination of Steve Gregory and Tavon Wilson in passing situations. Wilson will probably be hailed as Bill Belichick's "next Rodney Harrison," but it's highly, highly unlikely he'll have 50 percent of that kind of impact.

Free agent SS Adrian Wilson will visit the Patriots. It's Wilson's first known visit since being released by the Cardinals six days ago, and the 30-plus-year-old free agent safeties aren't getting much play, yet. 33-year-old Wilson's play fell off last season as he was demoted out of the nickel defense, but he can still be a solid presence as an in-the-box safety.

Free agent SS Adrian Wilson plans to play at least one more season. Wilson, going on age 34, hopes to land with a West Coast team who'll likely be in playoff contention. Very limited at this stage of his career, box-safety Wilson could perhaps intrigue a club like Denver or San Diego if he's willing to play for near the league minimum. Wilson is a two-down strong safety.

Cardinals released SS Adrian Wilson. Wilson said in December that he didn't expect to be back for a 13th year in the desert, and he was right. The 2001 third-round pick is just one year removed from an elite campaign, but saw his play slip in 2012. He was demoted out of nickel packages in November. With the safety market loaded with experienced talent, Wilson may have to wait a while for a new deal.

Cardinals SS Adrian Wilson doesn't expect to be back in Arizona next season. The 33-year-old safety is signed through 2015, but was demoted out of nickel packages in November. "It hurts," Wilson said. "It hurts. They can give you 1,000 reasons why that is, but I know I can still play football. It's tough right now." Wilson says the decreased snaps have made him "ponder about my future." If the disintegrating Cardinals decide to clean house this offseason, Wilson will almost certainly be let go.

Cardinals SS Adrian Wilson was demoted out of nickel packages in Sunday' Week 11 loss to the Falcons. Wilson was only on the field in base sets as he finished with one tackle and no sacks, pass breakups or forced turnovers. Rashad Johnson started the game, marking the first time Wilson hasn't started since he joined the team in 2008. "Looks like it worked pretty well, didn't it?" coach Ken Whisenhunt said of the secondary change. "Like I said, it was consistent with our message to the team and I think our team rallied behind that. Our team played hard today."

Cardinals SS Adrian Wilson (ankle) is listed as questionable for Week 3. Willson was limited in Friday's practice, but there's been no indication that he won't be available. In addition to Wilson, Todd Heap (questionable, knee) is tentatively expected to play against the Eagles.
