The Timberwolves informed Butler on Saturday that he would be released, Darren Wolfson of KTSP-TV reports.
EDGE Analysis
Butler had made NBA rosters in each of the last three seasons despite not receiving a fully-guaranteed contract in any of those years, but that streak came to an end Saturday. The veteran's reliability from the three-point line could allow him to latch on somewhere else around the league, though at 37 years old, Butler may also view retirement as an option.

Butler signed a non-guaranteed deal with the Timberwolves on Thursday, Shams Charania of The Vertical reports.
EDGE Analysis
Butler will now attempt to make the Wolves' final roster out of training camp, potentially filling the void left by Kevin Garnett, who is reportedly working toward a contract settlement with Minnesota. Each of the last three seasons, Butler has begun the year on a non-guaranteed or partially guaranteed contract and has been able to earn his way onto the roster for the Pacers (2013-14), Wizards (2014-15) and Spurs (2015-16). Last season, Butler appeared in 46 games for San Antonio, averaging 2.7 points and 1.2 rebounds in 9.4 minutes per game. As he enters his age-37 season, Butler is unlikely to provide more than veteran bench depth for Minnesota, should he ultimately make the roster.

Butler was waived by the Spurs on Wednesday, Shams Charania of Yahoo! Sports reports.
EDGE Analysis
The move comes in response to the team needing to clear a spot for Kevin Martin, who agreed to sign with San Antonio over the weekend. Butler was far from a fixture in the rotation this season, but he appeared in 46 games, averaging 2.7 points and 1.2 rebounds in 9.4 minutes per game. The 36-year-old won't be playoff-eligible this season, so he's unlikely to find a new home until the offseason.

Butler played 11 minutes and provided two points (1-3 FG, 0-2 3Pt) and two assists in Monday's 119-101 win over the Heat.
EDGE Analysis
Butler has seen double-digit minutes in two of the last three games, but went unused in the Spurs' more closely-contested win over the Lakers on Feb. 6. As such, Butler's appearances are likely to be limited to games where the outcome is already well in hand, so don't count on his minutes being consistent.

Butler (coach's decision) was inactive in Monday's 106-79 win over the Nets.
EDGE Analysis
The Spurs aren't dealing with any injuries at the moment, and with Butler either ranking as the 14th or 15th man on the squad, there hasn't been an opportunity for him to see the court much recently. He's appeared in only one of his team's last nine contests.

Butler scored seven points off the bench against the 76ers on Monday with five rebounds and two assists in 27 minutes.
EDGE Analysis
The Spurs sat Kawhi Leonard (illness), Tim Duncan (rest), and Manu Ginobili (rest) against Philadelphia, and Butler was the recipient of a lot minutes due to that. The Spurs will get back to full strength Wednesday and Butler's value is very low moving forward.

Butler scored five points (2-4 FG, 1-2 3Pt) to go along with two rebounds in ten minutes in Wednesday's win over Milwaukee.
EDGE Analysis
Butler hasn't been a significant factor for the Spurs this season. Though he has played in all but two contests on the season he's averaging just 8.7 minutes and 2.0 points per game. It doesn't appear likely that Butler will step into a larger role anytime soon, and if his minutes don't improve he shouldn't be looked to for much, if any, fantasy output.

Butler didn't attempt a shot in his minute of playing time against New York in the Spurs' 94-84 win Monday.
EDGE Analysis
The veteran small forward saw a majority of his time this season in the Spurs' blowout of the Nets last Friday where he saw a season-high of 11 minutes. Aside from that, his opportunities to play have been little to none for San Antonio. Butler provides yet another veteran presence to the locker room, however he will be hard pressed to find a substantial role coming behind Kawhi Leonard and Kyle Anderson on the depth chart.

Butler has made the Spurs Opening night roster, Shams Charania of Yahoo! Sports reports.
EDGE Analysis
After spending the last two seasons with the Pacers and Wizards, Butler will begin Opening night this season with the Spurs. Barring a string of injuries, the veteran won't likely reach the rotation, but could see a few minutes sporadically.

Butler is listed on the Spurs' training camp roster, Michael Erler of SB Nation reports.
EDGE Analysis
The 36-year-old Butler had a surprising resurgent season for the Wizards in 2014-15, posting averages of 7.7 points and 20.1 minutes in 75 games, all of which marked his highest totals in three years. His advancing age could make it difficult for him to break camp with the Spurs, but it's possible coach Gregg Popovich may be willing to keep him aboard as a veteran mentor for some of the team's younger players.
