Williams announced his retirement from the NBA following the Bucks' Game 5 elimination to the Heat in the second round of the 2020 NBA playoffs, Marc J. Spears of ESPN.com reports.

Williams is retiring after his 15th year in the league. Coming out of UNC, Williams was the second overall pick in the 2005 NBA Draft. He began his career with the Hawks, where he played for seven seasons and averaged 11.5 points, 5.3 rebounds and 1.3 assists. He then spent two years in Utah before moving on to Charlotte and, eventually, Milwaukee. Though never an All-Star, Williams' longevity is rare, and he retires with the 90th-most NBA games played and has the 32nd-lowest turnover rate in NBA history.

Williams went for 12 points (4-8 FG, 4-5 3Pt), seven rebounds and one block in 22 minutes during Saturday's 118-104 Game 5 win against the Magic.

EDGE Analysis

Williams had by far his best showing of the first round in this one, scoring in double figures while also logging 20-plus minutes. He hadn't accomplished either of those feats in the first four games of the series, but Williams may be relied upon a bit more heavily as the postseason continues thanks to his ability to contribute on both ends and at both forward positions.

Williams was ejected during Saturday's Game 3 against the Magic, Josh Robbins of The Athletic reports.

Williams made his first appearance since the restart with an active day on the glass. The veteran will provide key depth for the Buck's front court during their title push this summer. He'll face the Nets on Tuesday.

Williams appears to have leapfrogged Ersan Ilyasova on the power forward depth chart, as the latter was left out of the rotation entirely in this one. Williams has earned at least 16 minutes in eight of nine appearances since joining the Bucks. Still, the 33-year-old veteran hasn't hit double figures in scoring once yet for Milwaukee, and he's at best a dart throw in daily leagues.
