Jones has retired and will be joining the Suns as the Vice President of Basketball Operations, Brian Windhorst of ESPN reports.

Jones spent last season with the Cavaliers, playing in just 48 games. In those games, he averaged 2.8 points across 7.9 minutes per game. Jones largely made a career out of being a three-point marksman and will finish his career with a 40.1 percent mark from distance on 5.2 points per game. Arguably his best season as a player came during the 2005-06 season with Phoenix, when he averaged 9.3 points per game on 38.6 percent from beyond the arc across 23.6 minutes per game.

Jones received the starting nod on Saturday with LeBron James (rest) and Kyrie Irving (rest) taking the night off, but with both James and Irving back in action Monday, Jones will revert to his usual bench role.

Despite the encouraging outing, Jones' minutes are likely to be right back in the single digits if James returns Monday against the Bucks.

Coach Tyronn Lue indicated Tuesday that Jones could end up seeing some time as the starting power forward while Kevin Love (love) remains out for the next six weeks, Cavaliers radio play-by-play broadcaster John Michael reports.

Lue has already named Channing Frye as the starter at the position for Tuesday's game against the Timberwolves, but it appears the Cavs may opt to alter their lineup game to game based on matchups during Love's absence. Jones made a spot start Jan. 19 against the Suns when Kevin Love (back) missed a contest, but fell out of the rotation for the following two games when Love was active. Richard Jefferson's (personal) absence Wednesday opened a rotation spot back up for Jones, but if the Cavaliers have Jefferson back in time for Friday's tilt with the Nets, Jones' minutes could dry up again.

At this late stage of his career, the 36-year-old is mostly a veteran voice in the locker room and a warm body capable of hitting a couple threes from time to time, and he is best left on the waiver wire.
