Tolleson is having a solid spring after coming back from corrective eye surgery in the offseason. In 20 at bats, he's collected five hits with a home run and two stolen bases. Tolleson is fighting for a spot on the 25-man roster. He has positional flexibility, having played 55 games at second base, 43 at third base, seven in the outfield and two at shortstop. As a hitter, he hit .253/.308/.371 in 170 at bats across 109 games. He is out of options and thus may win the job as the extra infielder if they don't want to try and get him through waivers. He has tough competition fighting for the infielder spots. Devon Travis, a star prospect who came from Detroit this offseason, is having a very strong spring and is in line for potentially being the starter at second base. Fighting for the backup roles are Maicer Izturis, Ryan Goins and Munenori Kawasaki. Goins' defense may get him a spot on the roster, but Tolleson still has a chance. With at bats coming in fits and starts even if he makes the roster, Tolleson has limited fantasy value whether or not he makes the team.

Tolleson had corrective surgery during the offseason to fix the vision problems that plagued him in 2014, the National Post reports.Last season, Tolleson was playing with 20/30 vision, which has been improved to 20/15 with the procedure that he underwent. The Jays have a vacancy at second base, which gives Tolleson an opportunity to compete for a regular spot this spring, but it's more likely that he'll stick in a utility role. Tolleson is out of options, however, so he's no lock to remain in Toronto depending on how things unfold in spring training.

Tolleson returned from the paternity list Thursday, Gregor Chisholm of MLB.com reports. Tolleson's reinstatement caused pitcher Rob Rasmussen to be optioned back down to Triple-A Buffalo. Since Tolleson's leave of absence wasn't due to his health, it seems highly likely that he'll regain his spot at third base against the Tigers on Friday.

Tolleson is being placed on the paternity list to clear a roster spot for Brett Lawrie, Jon Lott reports. The paternity list allows for a three-game absence from the team. Tolleson is currently the top third baseman on the blue Jays and should return to that role when he returns from paternity leave. He should be back for the weekend. Tolleson's return will then require the Blue Jays to make another decision regarding Lawrie. Tolleson is a utility infielder that has secured the third base position, but has yet to get consistent playing time with the team.

Steve Tolleson came through with a two-run single in the ninth inning on Friday, leading the Blue Jays to an 8-5 victory over the Rays in Tampa Bay. Tolleson's run-scoring knock off Grant Balfour broke a 5-5 tie. He entered the game late after Munenori Kawasaki departed with a hamstring injury, and he certainly made the most of his only at-bat. It wouldn't be surprising to see him in Saturday's starting lineup after his heroics on Friday.

Steve Tolleson (ankle) hit a pinch-hit home run in the Blue Jays' loss to the A's on Sunday. It was a ninth-inning solo jack off A's closer Sean Doolittle -- only the fourth homer that Doolittle had allowed this season. Tolleson has been dealing with a tweaked ankle but should get some starts this week.
