Diamondbacks released LHP Randy Wolf. Wolf exercised the opt-out clause in his contract. The veteran left-hander posted a 4.50 ERA in six starts with Triple-A Reno and evidently determined that he wasn't likely to be called up by the D'Backs anytime soon. He'll look for a minor league deal elsewhere.

Diamondbacks signed LHP Randy Wolf to a minor league contract; assigned him to Triple-A Reno. The impending deal was reported earlier by Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic, and now it's official. Wolf actually earned an Opening Day roster spot with the Mariners but requested his release after refusing to sign a 45-day release waiver. He'll provide some rotation depth in the minors for Arizona.

Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reports that the Diamondbacks are close to signing Randy Wolf to a minor league contract. The Diamondbacks' starters have really struggled so far this season, so they were looking to add some depth in the minors. Wolf actually earned an Opening Day roster spot with the Mariners but requested his release after refusing to sign a 45-day release waiver. While the lefty is some solid depth to have, it's hard to imagine him having a major impact with the big club this year.

Mariners released LHP Randy Wolf. Wolf was informed that he had made the team, but Seattle wanted him to sign a 45-day release waiver, which he declined to do. The veteran left-hander held a 4.26 ERA over five starts this spring for the M's. He's trying to make a comeback after missing all of 2013 while recovering from Tommy John surgery.

Randy Wolf continued to state his case for a spot in the Mariners rotation, allowing three runs on six hits over six frames against the Athletics on Sunday. Wolf walked a pair and struck out one in the ballgame. Most of the damage against him came on a pair of homers off the bats of Josh Donaldson and Derek Norris. The veteran southpaw owns a 4.26 ERA and 9/7 K/BB ratio through 19 innings this spring, and is still in the running for one of the final spots in the M's Opening Day rotation.

Randy Wolf spun four shutout innings on two hits and three walks against the Padres Tuesday. The veteran left-hander recorded three strikeouts. Wolf is probably a long shot to crack the Mariners' rotation but certainly helped himself in this one, lowering his spring ERA to 4.15. He missed all of 2013 while recovering from Tommy John surgery.

Randy Wolf struggled in his second start of the Cactus League season, surrendering four runs on three hits in over three innings against the Reds. Wolf also issued a pair of walks while striking out one. The veteran left-hander is in the running for a spot in the Mariners rotation to begin the season, but has to do a better job at keeping the ball in the yard, as Chris Heisey and Brandon Phillips each took one over the boards on Friday.

Randy Wolf pitched well in his Cactus League debut with the Mariners on Sunday, tossing a pair of scoreless innings. Wolf allowed a hit and a walk while striking out one. The 37-year-old southpaw is in camp as a non-roster invitee, but with the recent injuries to the M's rotation could find his way onto the Opening Day roster with a solid performance this spring.

Mariners signed LHP Randy Wolf to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training. CBS Sports' Jon Heyman confirms news of the signing and adds that he's being looked at as a possible bullpen option. Wolf missed all of 2013 while recovering from Tommy John surgery, but he's now back to full health. The 37-year-old had a 5.65 ERA over 157 2/3 innings between the Brewers and Orioles in 2012.

ESPN's Jerry Crasnick reports that Randy Wolf has "multiple offers" from clubs but "is looking for a guaranteed roster spot." Crasnick was told by a scout who attended a recent workout of Wolf's that the left-hander looked good. The veteran southpaw missed all of 2013 while recovering from Tommy John surgery but should enter spring training with no limitations. Now 37, Wolf last pitched for the Brewers and Orioles in 2012, posting a 5.65 ERA over 157 2/3 innings.
