Lyle Overbay is in the Yankees' starting lineup Wednesday against the Red Sox. Overbay was on the bench for Monday's season opener with left-hander Jon Lester on the hill, but he's starting Wednesday with right-hander Clay Buchholz going for Boston. Meanwhile, Kevin Youkilis will slide over to third base while Chris Stewart will start over Francisco Cervelli behind the dish.

Lyle Overbay has made the Yankees' Opening Day roster. It was expected following the release of Juan Rivera, but Yankees general manager Brian Cashman officially informed Overbay of the news on Friday afternoon. The 36-year-old should play first base against right-handers in the early part of the season, but he's unlikely to be fantasy relevant.

Yankees signed 1B Lyle Overbay to a minor league contract. Overbay was released by the Red Sox on Tuesday morning but found a new, possibly better, gig within a couple of hours. The 36-year-old could get semi-regular starts at first base for New York in the early going but he is highly doubtful to hold any fantasy relevance.

Red Sox released 1B Lyle Overbay. The Red Sox had until Tuesday to tell Overbay whether he would make the Opening Day roster, so he's now free to find an opportunity elsewhere. The 36-year-old struggled this spring, but he could make sense for a number of teams, including the Yankees and Brewers.

Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe reports the the Yankees have expressed interest in Lyle Overbay. Overbay's contract with the Red Sox includes an opt-out if he doesn't make the Opening Day roster, so the Yankees could pursue him for a platoon role with Juan Rivera at first base. With Mark Teixeira (wrist) expected to miss the first two months of the season, Overbay would provide veteran insurance.

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal speculates that Mike Carp being traded to the Red Sox could lead to Lyle Overbay returning to the Brewers. Overbay signed a minor league deal with the Red Sox late last month to serve as insurance policy to Mike Napoli at first base, but the acquisition of Carp could make him the odd man out. His contract includes an opt-out if he doesn't make the Opening Day roster, so any potential return to the Brewers is likely a few weeks away from coming to fruition. Still, it seems like a logical fit.
