Lyle Overbay didn't record an official at-bat in Sunday's loss to the Cubs, walking in all three of his plate appearances and scoring a run. The veteran first baseman has posted a .450 on-base percentage early in Cactus League play, and could be a candidate to make the Opening Day roster as a platoon option at first base.

Brewers signed 1B Lyle Overbay to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training. Overbay hit .289/.376/.464 with 35 home runs and 159 RBI in 317 games for Milwaukee during the 2004 and 2005 seasons, but that was his prime and he's a very different player now at age 36 (almost 37). He'll be competing for a share of the action at first base.

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that the Phillies are among the teams talking to Lyle Overbay about a minor league deal. Overbay, who turns 37 later this month, batted .240/.295/.393 with 14 home runs over 486 plate appearances last year with the Yankees. He's unlikely to find similar playin time in 2014, but he could be useful as a backup first baseman and left-handed bench bat.

Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe reports that Lyle Overbay "remains on the Astros' short list of low-cost first basemen." Cafardo adds that Houston "would love to have a veteran who could push Brett Wallace." Currently, Wallace is in line to compete with Marc Krauss, Jesus Guzman, Japhet Amador and Jonathan Singleton for the first base gig. Overbay batted just .240/.295/.393 last season for the Yankees but did slug 14 homers. Whoever winds up as the Astros' Opening Day first baseman will just be keeping the seat warm until Singleton is ready.

Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe reports that there has been "very little activity" with Lyle Overbay this winter. Overbay socked a surprising 14 homers for the Yankees last season but batted just .240/.295/.393 overall. Cafardo thinks the veteran first baseman will "likely wind up as someone's backup or a low-cost option for a team such as the Orioles or Indians."

Lyle Overbay went 0-for-4 on Thursday and is hitting .179 in 39 at-bats during September. Overbay's OPS tumbled under .700 to .697 tonight. Against all expectations, he's appeared in 135 games for the Yankees this season. However, he's likely to have a hard time finding work again this winter.

Lyle Overbay had a two-run single and his first stolen base since 2011 against the Red Sox on Thursday. The steal was on the back half of a double-steal, just like his last one two years ago. He did have a more traditional steal in 2011, too, though. He's swiped a total of 16 bases in his 13 big-league seasons.

Lyle Overbay still reported feeling queasy on Saturday, and may not be available to pinch hit. Overbay has been dealing with flu-like symptoms in recent days, which caused him to be scratched from Friday's lineup. Mark Reynolds will continue to start at first base in his absence.
