Chamberlain gave up a run on two hits in the 10th inning Saturday, taking the loss against the Jays. The Tigers' bullpen is in complete shambles right now, with Joe Nathan recording his sixth blown save of the season and Joakim Soria leaving Saturday's game with a lower-back injury. Chamberlain could potentially see some save opportunities if Nathan loses his job and Soria's injury turns out to be serious, but he didn't inspire confidence with Saturday's performance.

Joba Chamberlain picked up his second blown save of the season in Sunday's loss to the Red Sox, surrendering a three-run homer to David Ortiz. Chamberlain, filling in for the struggling Joe Nathan who had pitched the previous two nights, allowed a leadoff single to Brock Holt and a one-out walk to Dustin Pedroia before Oritz's dramatic blast. This may quell the rumblings of Chamberlain replacing Nathan in the ninth inning, at least until Nathan blows up once more.

With Joe Nathan getting the day off after pitching in three straight games, Joba Chamberlain pitched a hitless ninth for his second save Friday against the Mariners. Chamberlain is clearly second in line for saves in Detroit, and things could get very interesting if Nathan blows another opportunity in the near future. Still, the Tigers would much prefer to have Nathan bounce back.

Joba Chamberlain was removed from the eighth inning of Saturday's game against the Rangers due to an apparent injury. Joba came up limping after covering first base on a ground ball in the inning, and shortly afterwards departed with the training staff. The team should have an update on his status shortly.

Joba Chamberlain picked up his first save of the season, recording the final out of the game as the Tigers beat the White Sox on Tuesday. Phil Coke got into some trouble, entering the ninth inning with a five-run lead. Chamberlain walked Dayan Viciedo, then got Alexei Ramirez to line out for the 27th and final out of the game for the save. It's his first save since April 27 last season and the sixth of his career. Closer Joe Nathan, who has struggled lately with a self-described "dead arm", warmed up but was not needed.

Joba Chamberlain's fastball velocity was in the 89-91 mph range on Thursday against the Braves. It's early in camp and still a bit cold in Florida, so it's hard to make much of the poor velocity at this point. Chamberlain recorded a strikeout and worked around a base hit in his one scoreless inning of work. He averaged 94.6 mph on his fastball in 2013 -- his final season with the Yankees.

Tigers manager Brad Ausmus indicated Saturday that Joba Chamberlain will compete with Bruce Rondon to begin the season as the team's primary setup man in front of closer Joe Nathan. Ausmus would prefer to keep one person in that role instead of sharing the eighth inning, and hopes that one of the duo will step up and claim it as their own this spring. With a 39-year-old closer, whoever finds himself second in line for saves in the Tigers bullpen could be an attractive draft target for those speculating on saves.

Joba Chamberlain has lost 15 pounds over the offseason after beginning a new nutrition program. The program involves eating a lot of fish, something Chamberlain said he'd tried "maybe three times in my life" before his new diet. "I'm from Nebraska," he said. "We don't have fish in Nebraska." Chamberlain inked a $2.5 million deal over the winter and will be used to help set up for Joe Nathan.
