Sands signed with the Somerset Patriots of the Atlantic League on Monday, Chris Cotillo of SB Nation reports.
EDGE Analysis
Sands leaves MLB after failing to land a spring training invite this offseason. He spent 2016 in the White Sox organization, hitting .236 with seven RBI in just 24 major league games. The utility man has been relatively ineffective over five seasons, posting a career batting average of .238.

Sands was outrighted to Triple-A Charlotte on Friday, Colleen Kane of the Chicago Tribune reports.
EDGE Analysis
Sands was designated for assignment on June 7, making him available to be picked up by another organization but no team made a move on him. As a result, he'll remain with the White Sox but will be removed from the 40-man roster. The 28-year-old will likely remain at the Triple-A level until the White Sox are in need of additional outfield depth.

Sands was designated for assignment Tuesday, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
EDGE Analysis
Sands had mostly been relegated to pinch-hitting duties, as he's tallied just one hit since May 21. He'll clear room on the roster for James Shields, who was officially added to the major league roster Tuesday after last week's trade.

Sands will serve as the designated hitter and bat seventh Saturday against the Orioles.
EDGE Analysis
With Avisail Garcia out Saturday with a hamstring injury, Sands will step in for his sixth start of the season. Sands hasn't done a whole lot in his limited opportunities so far, but he does have a home run, and more at-bats should be available for as long as Garcia remains sidelined.

Sands went 1-for-4 with a two-run homer and three strikeouts in Wednesday's win over Minnesota.
EDGE Analysis
Getting his first start of the year, Sands teased his enticing power potential with a bomb to deep center, but displayed his painful lack of contact skills in every other at-bat. While Sands can slot in at a few different positions -- first base, left field, right field, DH -- those spots are pretty well accounted for on the South Side. That leaves the 28-year-old slugger with only the occasional fill-in start.

Sands will bat seventh as the designated hitter on Wednesday against the Twins, Colleen Kane of the Chicago Tribune reports.
EDGE Analysis
Sands has only gotten one at-bat this season in his first year with the White Sox. The 28-year-old hit for a .236/.286/.390 slash line in 50 games with the Indians last year, but is unlikely to see too much playing time this season. He replaces Avisail Garcia in the lineup.

Sands has made the White Sox Opening Day roster, Colleen Kane of the Chicago Tribune reports.
EDGE Analysis
Sands has batted .188 (9-for-48) this spring along with three homers, nine runs, and nine RBI. Last year with Cleveland, he played 50 games and compiled a .236 average with 11 runs and 19 RBI over 123 at-bats. Given his experience at first base and in the outfield, he could play multiple roles for the White Sox this year, possibly filling in for Jose Abreu when he needs an off day or replacing Austin Jackson or Adam Eaton late in games.

Sands in the mix for the White Sox's final roster spot, the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
EDGE Analysis
Sands has shown his characteristic power this spring (his first in the White Sox organization), but he has also shown his characteristic strikeout tendencies. Still, the White Sox are in need of some bench power, and he could fit the bill.
