Three years is a big risk for any reliever, but the Giants were forced to go there with Lopez drawing strong interest as one of the best left-handed relievers in the game.

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that the Giants and Javier Lopez are "close" to agreeing to a multi-year deal. Giants general manager Brian Sabean told reporters Tuesday that the two sides were "fully engaged" and Rosenthal hears that they are just working out the final details. With a 2.36 ERA over the past four seasons, the 36-year-old has established himself as one of the best left-handed relievers in the majors. The Nationals and Yankees were among the other interested teams.

The Bombers are looking for some left-handed relief help in case they're unable to re-sign Boone Logan. Lopez would certainly be a nice addition, as he's arguably the best southpaw reliever on the market. He posted a 1.83 ERA and 37/12 K/BB ratio over 39 1/3 innings for the Giants in 2013.
