Johnson (0-1) took the loss in his first MLB appearance of the year Thursday, giving up four runs in five innings against the Red Sox. He allowed eight hits and three walks, but struck out six.
EDGE Analysis
As a big righty with second-round draft pedigree and periods of success in the minors, the 26-year-old Johnson is an intriguing fantasy asset, but also a frustrating one. He didn't miss many bats (16 in 21.2 innings) with Triple-A Charlotte to open this year, part of what's been an inconsistent career on that front -- he whiffed 136 in 132.2 for Charlotte last season, but only 63 in 105.2 innings the year before. Those fantasy owners who find themselves so strapped for pitching that they're considering Johnson should proceed with caution.

Johnson was recalled from Triple-A Charlotte and will start Thursday's game against the Red Sox.
EDGE Analysis
The 26-year-old righty's K-rates have been up in recent years against Triple-A hitters, but he has yet to prove to be an effective big league starter over a significant stretch of time. He is worth a flyer in deeper formats for those desperate for starting pitching help, but it would be wise to take a wait-and-see approach before deploying him against a solid Boston lineup.

Johnson is expected to be promoted and start Thursday's game against the Red Sox, Dan Hayes of CSN Chicago reports.
EDGE Analysis
With John Danks being released, Chicago now needs to fill the fifth starter role, and while no official transaction has occurred yet, Johnson will likely rejoin the big league club. The righty has worked to a 3.74 ERA through four starts at the Triple-A level to start the season.

Johnson was optioned to Triple-A Charlotte on Sunday.
EDGE Analysis
Johnson didn't pitch in his most recent stint in the majors, and will now be sent back down to Triple-A. He is still on the 40-man roster to provide organizational depth. Theres a chance he could get called up again but for now, the right-hander will stay in Charlotte.

Johnson was recalled by the White Sox on Tuesday.
EDGE Analysis
Chicago optioned J.B Shuck down to Triple-A Charlotte following Monday's loss at home to the Angels, leaving an open spot on the active roster for Johnson. The 26-year-old Johnson has made a pair of starts at Triple-A Charlotte this season, working a 4.22 ERA with 12 strikeouts and three walks over 10.2 innings of work. He figures to slot into a bullpen role with the White Sox for the time being, however.

The White Sox optioned Johnson to Triple-A Charlotte on Monday.
EDGE Analysis
Johnson would have needed another starter to get injured to have any hope of opening the season in the big league rotation, but that did not occur, so his season will begin in the minors as expected. He gave up nine earned runs in six innings this spring, but still has some promise as a prospect after posting a 3.34 ERA in six big league starts last year.

Johnson allowed five runs on seven hits in three innings Saturday.
EDGE Analysis
He only walked one in the start, but he also allowed the first five batters he faced to reach base. Johnson is currently a longshot to crack the White Sox's initial rotation.

Johnson allowed four runs in three innings in his Cactus League debut Monday.
EDGE Analysis
Johnson walked two and issued a wild pitch in the first inning, and then Mike Trout notched a two-run shot off him in the third. Johnson needs a stellar spring if he hopes to knock Mat Latos from the team's fifth starter slot.

Johnson's chances of making the White Sox's Opening Day rotation took a hit Tuesday when the club signed Mat Latos.
EDGE Analysis
Johnson's prospect star has diminished from his pre-2014 top-100 status. However, he looked to be a minor sleeper heading into 2016 after posting a sub-3.00 FIP at Triple-A Charlotte and throwing a few good spins for the Sox in September. However, Latos' arrival will either push Johnson back to the minors or John Danks back to the bullpen. Danks has the larger contract, so he is likely the early favorite to hold onto a starting role.

Johnson went 6.1 innings Saturday, giving up two earned runs on five hits and three walks while striking out four in a 4-3 win over the Tigers.
EDGE Analysis
The 25-year-old continued his bid for a 2016 rotation spot, ending his season with four quality starts in six outings. Johnson doesn't miss many bats and allows too many walks, which limits his fantasy value, but his peripherals generally show improvement from his major league stint last season.
